Was that the one where you had a dinosaur, The Trotters Reliant Robin and a toy dog? I liked the 2000 balloon with Santa dropping the presents; but my favourite Christmas balloon was the one in 1999 with Father Christmas appearing as Northern Lights saying ho, ho, ho. Lovely stuff.

In 2001, the final year of the balloon, the BBC1 Christmas ident was an excellent one. There are no confirmations anywhere that this is the last year of the dancers. It is speculation. I suspect a new ident will be issued, but maybe nothing spectacular.

I totally agree. 1999 was the best Christmas ident package from the Balloon period.

What I really loved was the trailers that they did for Christmas in the old days. A little animation followed by programme clips, but did anyone feel slightly disappointed when the Christmas logo was revealed and it wasn't as exciting as the trailer animation? As an example BBC1's 1990 ident was a letdown but the trailer animation was wonderful.

This on DigitalSpy...
"They have been filmed last week. i know of one of the kids in it.
Its something to do with kids and big spheres going up into the air."
Make of that what you will....

BBC1 will definitely have a new Christmas ident this year - and it WILL feature children.
I'm afraid I don't know any more than that, though.

Oh for pity sake! Probably similar to the 'puddings' then...Sloppy old BBC. There seems to be no imagination with Christmas promotion like the old days.

I'm thinking Christmas decorations - probably with the little darlings dressed-up as giant red baubles or something like that....

Bone-idleness, that's what I make of it. Just what is the Beeb's obsession with having kids messing around as idents? Three years running we've had to put up with them during every single junction. As I said earlier, so many possibilities (seemingly) wasted.
Come on ITV, give us something decent before Red Bee takes a hold.

Yes there is definitely a NEW christmas ident this year on BBC1.
Not just speculation. John Applegate of BBC Information has replied to an email confirming that a new ident is to be shown but he can not reveal what it is because of an embargo! Top Secret stuff these idents. One whiff of it and the whole country will suffer!!!!

When do you think we'll get a first glance of the Christmas pres?
Given that the schedules were out earlier this year than last year (21st Nov vs. 24th Nov), it's a fair bet that the pres will start earlier too...
My money's on this Thursday 1st Dec, either around Eastenders or more likely at the junctions before or after Little Britain, where they're guaranteed to get a big audience (given the relatively weak schedules this year, they're gonna need all the promotion they can get)!! Either that, or Saturday around Come Dancing - but that's only 3 weeks from Xmas Eve and a possible 2 weeks before the idents start, so I think this Thursday might be the day...

There's no way that Xmas idents will start on the 17th December.
The difference this year is that Christmas Day is on a Sunday, which means for most people there is a full 5 day working week before it, and still having time for Christmas Eve.
Therefore comparisons with last year can't necessarly be made.
