I could see, despite the controversey last year, a reuse of Bouncy Puddings and also Snowflake on BBC One.

For the 9,437,825th time, there is definitely going to be a new BBC1 ident this year. Same goes for BBC2.

Do you know if BBC2 are going to use their new ident along with previous ones or just the new one this Christmas? And will there be stings for the BBC1 idents?

That I don't know, but I wouldn't be surprised if they were. If so, then the 2001 tree will be shown for the 5th consecutive year.

There usually are stings at christmas. The ones in 2002 and 2003 with the snowflake children were good, but last year's pudding children were quite poor IMO. For me, they were spoilt because the audio used was identical to the first few seconds of the ident.

I thought the snowflakes were better than the puddings, but to have the Snowflakes ident two years in a row was unforgivable!! Another thing I wanted to ask was about continuity. In the very last link with the Christmas idents on BBC1 earlier this year, the continuity announcer said that they would be coming froma new home. Is BBC continuity still based in television centre?

No, outside the Nations, all BBC Television channels (with the exception of News 24 and World) are transmitted by Red Bee Media from the Broadcast Centre on Wood Lane in London.

The fact that Christmas idents have universal air dates on both channels suggests this decision must come from someone higher than the channel controllers.

Not necessarily, it just means that the people who work in media planning talk to each other! I doubt the channel controllers even get a say, they've got far far more important things to look after

Hope this hasn't been mentioned already, but I've just seen a BBC Two Christmas trailer. The style is exactly the same as usual, apart from at the very end, a yellow spark appears at the bottom of the screen, which traces over the TWO of the logo. Looks quite effective. I'm glad they're doing something different to BBC One.

As for the other channels, BBC Three's trailers have the addition of snow on the top of the logo. I haven't seen any BBC Four Christmas promos yet.

Apparently, Channel Five may start showing their Christmas idents next Saturday (Sat 17th). so watch out.

Close, but no cigar: World does, but BBC Parliament doesn't.
(as well as the above UK BBC channels, BBC Prime and BBC Food are broadcast from there too, as well as all of UKTV, the Community Channel, and ESPN Classic Sport)

Yeah yeah ok. Must try harder. I forgot about Parliament. It's easy to do. Is Parliament transmitted by BBC staff? I've never had any dealings in any way with anyone at that channel!

Can anyone elaborate as to what the new BBC Two Christmas ident will be this year?
And does the soundtrack of the new BBC One Christmas ident contain children singing the BBC One theme tune?

I think it's mostly BBC staff now, but it didn't used to be. My girflriend worked for them last year as a captioner (and as such, knows more about the House of Lords than most people would care about). She was employed by Millbank Studios, and recieved a payslip from ITV Yorkshire. The captions she was putting on screen were prepared by BBC-employed researchers.
I think some of the staff (including the engineers) were transferred to the BBC late last year, but it's still transmitted from Millbank Studios.

I'm interested in the audio of the BBC1 ident. Remind me again, you heard it on Radio Sheffield? I live in Sheffield, so I wonder If they will play it again. If they were singing to the BBC ONE theme tune then I'd say it's highly likely that that will be the audio for the ident.

5 Days, 20 hours and 7 minutes until the new BBC1 ident is revealed.

Hope it's worth the wait Joe. After all we've only been waiting since the last Christmas Ident for a new one!! How quickly Christmas comes around. Incidentally Joe, you are one of the few people who has never been insulting to me in this forum. For that cheers!! A very merry Christmas to you.

To everyone else, thanks for all your cheerful, often tongue-in-cheek sarcasm, and let it continue next year......insults and all. Happy Christmas everyone!!!!
