I've seen clips of the new BBC1 Christmas ident a few weeks ago. There is pretty much little red in it whatsoever. Completely whitewashed background, a giant green cone in the middle (I giant Christmas tree i suppose) and a lot of little children marching up the sides of the 'tree' holding baubles (they might be red as far as I remember).

The music is kids singing ooh and ahh with lavish orchestra, harps and sleigh bells, cant make my mind up if the melody is festive or more suitable for Hallowe'en though!

It sounds awful - as if we could get any worse than the Bouncy Puddings.

I presume from that comment that you know when the ident will launch, and it's the 17th.

I have to say, I really would be surprised if the ident didn't debut on the 17th December Andrew.

Its very early though, we'll be bored of it by Christmas Eve

At one time they only used to use xmas idents for 3 days, now they are going to one extreme to the other and using it for about 16 days!

Will they be having special stings as well? I liked the snowflake kid stings but the pudding kid stings were not as good.

That I dont know, I dont work for the BBC (used to), I was just a mere observer in part of the process of making the ident a few weeks ago and just saw draft video (it was a sound recording).

Sounds like a bizarre audio track Shocked

Is there definitely a new BBC TWO ident this year? It'd be nice to have something that isn't too..yellow...for a change.

Yes, that was my not-very-good attempt at being subtle. It looks like they'll be launching before Strictly Come Dancing on the 17th.

Sinister's definitely the word for it.

There are two versions; one with slightly more sinister music, for introducing the news.

Far too early. Launch before Christmas Eve and you lose the magic.

And I hope ITV1 won't pull whatever they have immediately after Big Ben on New Year's Eve.

Completly agree - 24th Dec till the last New Year bank holiday (2nd Jan this time!) should be when they run, though I think launching the Friday night before (23rd Dec) would be appropriate - especially as it's the day most people finish work for Christmas.

Yes, Willy Wonka sprung to mind when I saw it too.

Prefer it to the last couple of years, there's a lot more going on within the frame for a start

I'm not surprised at all that it's the 17th. It's far too early, but I knew that they would debut on this date.

I'll be interested to see the slower paced news version after last year's boxing day cockup.
