The Christmas Ident Thread 2005

Right here we go. I've done it. No doubt this thread will get locked by the morning but its a start anyway.

So whats the latest on BBC1's ident? Anyone been watching Blue Peter?


BBC ONE: 2004 Festive ident

BBC2 will probably yet again wheel out some old favourites they've used for the past 4 years with some possible new 'objects'.

ITV1 are probably going to roll out last years idents due to the forthcoming rebrand or failing that - take a Channel 4 route and not have any Festive idents this year.

Channel 4 last year decided not to wheel out the snowflurry ident they've used since 1998 for one final time. Instead just sticking to normal 'blinds' continuity. Channel 4 will be most interesting to see what they come up with for their new ident package. I'm imagining baubles behind a 3D '4' will be used on the endcaps to trailers. It wouldn't surprise me if they don't have any Christmas idents.

I'm near certain you know exactly why they didn't do anything last year, upcoming rebrand at the time and everything. They've been using the snowblinds for some 7 years by then so best not wheel that out once more. I'm pretty confident some form of Christmas idents will come from Channel 4 this year. What happened to five? They forget Christmas existed that year?

Someone else can do five They had some good'uns if I remember.

At long last, the Christmas Ident thread. No doubt in my mind whatsoever that there will be no new ident for BBC1. As for BBC2, a new one - but with the other 3 recycled yet again.

I think that ITV should make a new ident but may reuse last years one. Channel 5 should make a new ident this year.

That's fantastic news.

That is good news. BBC One would be unwise to use last years again especially on Boxing Day when the first anniversary of the tsunami takes place. The ident used last year was great until tragedy occurred then it seemed somewhat inappropriate. Still, will have to and see!

Re: the Tsunami - that was the BBC's fault though for not having an appropriate ident. The ident itself did it's job fine!


A couple of ideas for C4. One is Santa travelling on his sleigh and presents falling off the back of it mid-flight, forming a 4 as they fall to the ground.

The other is simply blocks of snow forming the logo in a wintry scene.

I can see them going for something like that.

Yes I agree re last years ident. Until Boxing Day, the ident was festive, jolly and very cheery. On Boxing Day after the tsunami, the ident seemed distasteful. All for the wrong reasons. It was not the fault of the ident creators as you say, it served Christmas fayre fine, but as you also say, it was the BBC's pathetic reluctance to introduce a suitable news ident which could be used at any time in reflective or important news matters.

I hope this years ident, if we are to get a new one as suggested, will be more suitable for news coverage, which I hate to admit, the 2002/2003 Snowflake kid ones were. I guess though, that was because of the music. Perhaps last years soundtrack was just too jolly!
