They do seem to schedule a lot in on the day. Not only do the majority not watch the tv/have it on as background noise only, but most people also don't watch the tv for the whole day or even the whole evening.
Yet scheduling repeats gets slammed by the media.
Looking at Boxing Day ratings doesn't seem to be any better either.
But unlike previous years, Personally I didn't think the schedules were great this year, nothing new just Christmas Specials of the same shows.
As if the Christmas schedules are usually the home of innovative, groundbreaking television...

To be fair some gems have appeared over the xmas period. one of them "You Saw Them Here First" has to be one of them, especial with clips from rare and show which dont tend to be broadcast.
Mrs Browns boys may not actually returning full stop, I do agree with what your saying the listings are truly dire and all I've heard from people even at the bus stop, " oh the telly dire this year" Saying that look back at Listings from years gone by:
Thought the 80s you had Noels live on xmas morning, Sickness and in health, Russ abbout Xmas show, only fools and horse. ITV always had a bond film. Some of the more interesting programme were never on Xmas day like Kenny Everett or Stanley baxter.
Why cant we have live xmas day programme? We had it in the 80s we had it in the 90s.
The bigger question should be will it get another full series?
I doubt it, due to the MBB cast tour schedules which I'd argue are more lucrative for Brendan O'Carroll than the BBC tv show. I'd also expect a movie sequel before 2020 as well.

It been said he has no plans of yet to do that, but there are plans for a spin off: entitled Wash and Blow, set in the salon where Rory and Dino work.
