Well im certain that ITV1 will have a 1 hour special of Emmerdale and Corrie on Christmas Day – they usually have Emmerdale at about 6.30pm and Corrie at 7.30pm.
I do think that Granada can produce some excellent hour long episodes of both Emmerdale and Corrie providing the acting and storylines are not weak.
I found the double and triple episodes annoying when there was a gap, 90% of the time im not around on a Monday anyway but I was that week there were 3 on, and I almost always watch the double episodes straight after one another.
Heres my BBC1 Christmas Day Schedule, see if you can notice a theme i've got going here.
BBC1:
17:00 - The Queens Speech
17:01 - BBC News
17:30 - The Story of Doctor Who (Repeat)
18:30 - Doctor Who - The Curse of Fatal Death (Repeat)
19:00 - Doctor Who - Dimensions in Time (Repeat)

This is what in my opinion is how it should be on ITV.
No Offence, but what child in their right mind would be up at 5am???
On christmas day, quite a lot of children would be up at 5AM I would've thought? I do think it would be a good idea to experiment with starting kids programmes maybe even as early as 4AM (only a few repeats and it's scheduled in a dead timeslot anyway so there would be nothing lost if the whole thing was a flop) so that the kiddies who haven't slept all night and annoy their parents into submission of letting them get up so early, would then having something to occupy them whilst they played with their presents. Then, mummy and daddy could go back to bed if they wanted too.

13.40 The Queens Speech
WHAT! Someone had the audicity to propose that the queen could possibly be shown at a time other than 3PM? Sacrilege!
Seriously, no I'm not sure that etching it in stone at 3PM is a good thing either and I do think it would be an idea to experiment with different times, but the palace will never give broadcasters the freedom to experiment with their scheduling of it. It does have to be treated as an unmovable boulder on the landscape of christmas day scheduling, unfortunately.
Quote:
Don't forget the Christmas in July special on QVC next month in which they get blantantly Christmassy for a day (normally on the 25th) before putting the decs away until nearer the time.
Christmas in July is mainly done to clear away all the old stock they didn't sell from the last christmas. If they had a big blitz on them in January, they'd have to let them go for next to nothing because everyone else does. By holding on till July, their value has started to go back up again and so they can knock out the remaining stock to clear space for their new christmas lines.
Anyway, here's my schedule. I'd like to have gone for something radical and adventurous, in reality I know it'll be the same old formula yet again. Here what I'd do for BBC1:
6AM Breakfast
9AM CBeebies
10AM CBBC Christmas show type thing
11AM Religious Service
12PM Dad's Army christmas special (substitute in any other classic sitcom).
12:30 (if above programme not an hour long) Wallace and Gromit
1PM Christmas Carols (I envisage having a choir singing some carols that you could leave on in the background whilst eating your dinner)
2:45 BBC News and Weather
2:55 Regional News and Weather (I know there is no regional news on Christmas day, but how about the beeb break the trend, even if it's a cheap recorded bulletin?)
3PM The Queen
3:15 Film: Jurassic Park/Home Alone/some other family film
4:55 BBC News
5PM Porridge Christmas Special (wouldn't be christmas without that)
6PM BBC News and Weather
6:15 Regional News and Weather (even if it's just a repeat of what was shown at 2:55)
6:20 Film: Lord of the Rings (or some other newish family film)
8PM Alistair McGowan (whether that be the Big Impression, or a more focused programme like Posh&Becks last year I don't know)
9PM Only Fools and Horses repeat from 1996 (Don't think it'll happen? We'll see at christmas I suppose)
10PM French and Saunders production of some sort
11PM BBC News
11:15 Film: Rising Damp/On the Buses/Steptoe and Son (substitute in any film version of a sitcom)
1AM Film: No idea what, but another film. Probably a drama this time
2:45 Hand over to News 24
