Aldi has won Christmas... and it's only part 1!

Excellent. Christmas, The Italian Job and the Coca Coca vehicle all rolled into one package.
Still, unlike The Italian Job, this will probably have an official ending Very Happy

The main thing to take away from that advert is the massive size of the Quality Street tin.

At £6.89 a time it really was a Christmas treat you had to save up for though.

Wait until you see the price of this year’s Christmas Radio Times! Laughing

The wonder of Woolies is that Anita Harris just hasn't aged Very Happy Woolworth was always where Christmas started Thumbs up

We live in a completely different world now with most companies launching their Christmas adverts free of charge on social media and YouTube, which for me makes it even more astonishing to think that the company paid for a whole (or majority) of an advertisement break (presumably in prime time) in 1981 when there was only ITV, with the competition for advertising slots it must have cost a fortune.

I Agree, they spent a fortune on Christmas advertising & I remember it was always a talking point the next day... 'did you see the Woolies advert it went on forever'

Having seen this on TV for the first time tonight I agree, it is brilliant and I have thought for years why no other company has used the truck device, but I do wonder if this could get them into trouble with Coca-Cola for being so close to the original.

They've probably consulted with the lawyers to make sure it's JUST different enough to not be sued!

I'm sure Aldi's German lawyers have said its all fine. I thought maybe the writer of The Italian Job might have objected but considered he died in 2009 it would probably fall to Paramount to object. if they wanted to, that is.

Well, Aldi didn't get sued last year for ripping off BBC1's Sprout Boy Wink

They got away with it by creating more than 3 seconds of animation.

The fool almost reminds me of Gary Baseman’s art style. I wonder if he had anything to do with it.

I don’t think Aldi would be sued by Coke. Literally anyone watching that commercial would start thinking about Coca Cola, so in a way it’s just advertising that product just as well.

Very good point. It may even lead to coca-cola appearing in their stores.
