Okay, who's been hallucinating?

So what happened with the truck then?

No clue.

But I want to echo ethan's earlier statement of hallucination because Aldi have done it yet again!

Yeah okay, they are definitely taking some sort of drug.

I have a feeling this was lost in translation - Aldi probably thought, well carrot + cake = CARROT CAKE. GET IT? But the advertisers were on so many drugs at the same time that they produced this instead.

So, they relayed the truck advert over some sequences with Santa in. Not revolutionary, but still, acceptable.

Seems a few theme tunes have had a plinky-plonky piano treatment on ITV tonight. I've only heard Corrie's and that was weird.

Apparently it's all tied in to the John Lewis ad which is on tomorrow at 9:15 (set your reminders everyone).

Here's the John Lewis advert...

Good Morning Britain are airing clips of the advert, refusing to air the whole thing until later on. What I don’t like is that they’re showing the first five seconds or so and then the last bit when he’s a kid on Christmas Day. Way to ruin the ending for everyone. Smashing ad, though.

Did anyone manage to get any of the piano theme tunes on ITV last night. I was too busy watching BBC to notice at the time. I’ve seen the Corronation Street theme tune which sounded like a lounge player who has ran out of songs to play but apparently there was also This Morning, The Chase and Emmerdale.

It's a different approach to their previous campaigns, but I quite like it. Though I guess if I wasn't an Elton John fan already, then maybe it wouldn't appeal so much.

Yeah a lot of it hinges on being an Elton John fan. I quite like it.

However, I find the slogan very weak. "Some gifts are more than just a gift" - sounds clumsy.

"For gifts that make a difference" would have been a far better pay off. And the less that's said about that logo, the better.

Meh. Guess it would be nice if you were a fan of his but it’s not for me.

It's nearly the same idea as the John Lewis Always a woman advert ..... but in reverse and with Elton John in it. Not very groundbreaking.

Honestly, I don't see the big deal. Loads of companies putting huge effort (besides Aldi) into their adverts that have taken months to film and create, and they barely get a mention. But JL could release an incredibly middle-of-the-road advert and, just because their logo is on the end of it, it gets more attention than the Waitrose and Boots adverts combined.

I don't think this is middle-of-the road - I quite like it. But part of that is just because I like Elton John (although I'm not necessarily a fan). Oh, and what is JL's obsession with 'Your Song'? It's the second time they've used it in a campaign - Christmas 2010 had Ellie Goulding's cover of it.

And, yes, the logo is terrible. Sue me.

Nobody here's referred to them as "John Lewis & Partners", you all get an F.

I wouldn’t say they are obsessed with Your Song. They did it once in the conventional John Lewis covers style. But niw they have Elton John on board they simply decided it was the song of his that works better in their Christmas ad.

And what’s wrong with the Aldi campaign? It’s arguably been most successful thus far this Christmas. It feels very Christmassy and shows off it’s products.
