Since I haven't seen it mentioned, I hereby alert anyone who hasn't already noticed to the fact that the Learning Zone is now on its christmas break and some extended closedown idents might well be popping up over the next few weeks.
Going through the schedules, I rate the following as strong possibilities for a 90-second countdown into News 24 on BBC ONE:
Sat 29 Dec - official handover time 3.00 am
Wed 1 Jan - official handover time 2.55am
Fri 4 Jan - official handover time 2.00am
Sat 5 Jan - official handover time 2.55am.
And who knows, old people *do* often die during cold spells - I know it's horrible, but if the Queen Mother does sucumb over christmas we might see some interesting stuff, especially on BBC TWO (BBC TWO yellow clock? BBC generic clock?)...

God Jen! You do think of some things don't you? Lol!
I heard the anno last night on BBC Two 'And the Snooker final is coming up tomorrow. Hope you can still get to sleep after that exciting news.' I'm sure she was being sarcastic...
To be honest, I'm not bothered about BBC Two! My wish to collect extended closedowns of Car, Wave, Dog et all have passed. I couldn't care less how long some fish swim around a 2 for! And do the idents actually last longer than 15 seconds? They always seem in such a rush to speak.
Nah, let's see the balloon off in style this Christmas...

Asa, what will replace the balloons or has it not been released?
How could Asa say on TV that he liked them? Lol! They are horrid!
Well if he'd said he didn't like them he wouldn't have been invited back (and with the BBC One balloons going..!!)
Haha! The problem is that I don't mind the idents too much if I don't think about what they replaced. I think they'd probably be good for the Comedy Zone or BBC Three but then I think back to 10 years worth of imaginative, varied (both in style/colour and design - computer, live action etc..), appropriate to the programmes, and themed idents and realise they are poor in comparison. The old ones had personality - and didn't had to resort to the 2 spouting arms and waving a domino 2 up or flipping a logo over!
Cheers, Asa

Quite why Ms Root was in such a hurry to get these animations on air...goodness only knows. Very disappointing. A lot more imagination and variety required.
After all the trouble they had with the old /B/B/C/ logo, they've now gone and reduced the current one to a resolution at which it never looks right. Even on digital, the current BBC logo looks quite malformed within that purple box.
Purple is also a very strong colour which will bleed quite nastily into the white when recorded on the likes of VHS - particularly given the very thin white lettering. The red proposed for BBC ONE will be an even bigger mess.
The eagle-eyed among you will also have noticed that they've botched the BBC TWO NI logo. Have a look at the positioning of the 'NI' under the BBC logo. Not exactly centred.

used when bbc1 and 2 simulcasted?
i too have stopped watching weekend closes on bbc 2 - seems pointless now theres no chance of swan or optic
and personally id rather see a long bbc1 ident at closedown - rather than a 90second countdown

Probabally another globe Anything is better than the baloons, even BBC2s Fish!
Not so.
Apparantly BBC One will not be continuing with its 'globe' theme after next year.
So be warned - BBC One could be WORSE than BBC Two in respect to presentation!

I think it'll be a shame if they don't have a globe. I mean, it's traditional!
