I say birng back the famous central cake. It is the sort of logo where variations of it can be done. i.e.do the cake logo like the old bbc 2's and have it made out of different materials and have things thrown on it and give the cakes personalitys. i.e. ones for serious programmes , ones for comedy programmes etc

I agree! It was fantastic the way they used the cake so effectively for so long, especially the ones used in 1997 and 1998. Also, it worked very well with all the different kinds of jingles that were used before the programmes commenced. No other ITV station was as imaginative and creative as Central was with its cake and it should return to our screens immediately!

It'll be smashing if it does!!!!

The Cake is one of my favourite idents, and was one of the things that made me interested in them in the first place. I remember reading a post on TV Ark that said someone at Central must have had an overactive imagination to produce so many fantastic idents compared to other companies, and I agree. No other regional company has produced so many quality idents.

At least bring it back for Central News! http://web.ukonline.co.uk/tv.home/forum/emoticons/biggrin.gif

May I suggest a quick look at this page on the Lambie Nairn site? (It is quite old by now though!)

What a load of rubbish...how about someone coming up with a mock new identity that incorporates the Central Cake???

I quite agree with you. And if what is being said here is true, it looks like Carlton may do too!

I can't believe they wrote that. I assume that utter tosh was spoken by one of the people who ended up leaving in a trail of disgrace, after which HTV kept their name and Carlton's website started playing up the regional names again.

With great idents, music, people on the bus talking about 'What's on Central tonight' (yes, whenever I went back home to Burton-on-Trent that's what I'd hear) and programmes like Central Weekend, how CAN they say that brand awareness was at an all time low? I bet he/she meant in London, where of course Central and Westcountry wouldn't be known about. Somebody should tie the M25 around his/her neck.

Hear hear! No-one refers to Carlton down here in Devon! How dare they even wish to destroy the brand? People still refer to 'Westward' every now and then Wink

i have to say, i have never ever (im not exadurating) heard anyone refer to itv as carlton or itv1 here in bham. its always central or itv ... so all this branding has been a waste, i dare say, it'd have been cheaper to stick with the origional names and increase their profile - rather than introduce strange names that no-one uses.
