watching central today, i noticed the announcer was one who i hadn't heard for while - maybe he's now a freelance?, but anyway, at the end of the credits for the great escape, it was like a flashback to the time before end-credit promotions, where you can only hear the annoucer, and it was just like the old central days hearing that announcer's voice.

anyway - into the news, his announcement read 'this is carlton, at the heart of the central region'

wouldn't it be a turn-up for the books if on 7th january, the central and westcountry names returned, but the border, granada, tttv, meridian, anglia and yorkshire names vanished.

Carlton are officially making their region names 'official' again on 1st January.

Perhaps this is why the announcer said 'at the heart of the Central region' instead of 'at the heart of the ITV network'.

That doesn't mean the idents will all suddenly start saying 'CENTRAL' - just that the fact you're watching Carlton's 'Central Region' will be announced more frequently.

I'd like to have heard that one. Deliberate policy decision, or announcer slipping it in himself? http://web.ukonline.co.uk/tv.home/forum/emoticons/shocked.gif
Anyway, I'd love to see Central back, even if it was just a modified version of the Carlton ident, but I don't think it's likely.

EDIT: Ah, well that's answered my first point, anyway. Still, I'd love the ident to be written Carlton Central...

Yeah, Central complete with star logo and Carlton-style idents would work well!

I think it should be Carlton Ident but 'You're watching Carlton/Westcountry/Central. Now has Jill come back from the dead? Find out now,in Crossroads.'
It would work well and Carlton wouldn't have to spend more on idents.

No...I think the Central name should return the main identities, if only in a Carltonised sort of way.  The mock above is pretty good, but with the heart identities being dropped in the New Year, Carlton will be revamping their image somehow I guess.  But as long as they don't go the whole way and just show ITV1 on our screens, I'll be Smile !  Carlton should spend some money on some new identities, which are as decent and visually pleasing as they have now and include the Central name in there somewhere, me thinks!  BUT NO ITV1 generic identities...alright?

Bring back Central!

i dont want to appear stupid, but do you mean, instead of having carlton, carlton and carlton (as they would like us to refer to them as)... it will be carlton, carlton central region and carlton westcountry region?

if thats so, then what is it officialy now, just carlton, or carlton broadcasting in the xxxxxxxx region? and will westcountry be 'westcountry' or 'west country' region?

is this purely for official purposes, or will new guidelines be issued to announcers as to how to mention the name?

and is this in preperation for a possible integration into the rumoured national itv1 - sort of slightly reassert regional identity for use before the local news when the itv1 name comes

and will this affect htv?

Oh, go on then....! Wink

Oh, sorry. I DID do a Westcountry one, but after I posted mocks a new rule has appeared: 'No mocks'.

I suppose if I'd posted a genuine BBC2 still there would have been a new rule 'No BBC2 images'.
