Right. This is my thought on what BC News should do for Christmas.

Those two large trees in Breakfast like lat year and a similar setup in News 24. And for the people around the world of different religions not accepting Christmas lot they could say
You're watching BBC World News live from the studios of BBC News 24 in London. Which would show that the transmittion is from a UK studio where Christmas IS celebrated.

Then in The national news studio (is was about to type the real studio name, are we still not allowed to do that) they could either have a tree in the 'sport' corner or have a christmasy display on the big red thing on the wall.

anyone elses views on what the beeb should do and for that matter any onther broadcasters like Sky or ITN

Well I think all the news presenters should sing a Christmas carol each, and then release a CD! Wouldn't that be funny!Very Happy

Nice Idea but the presenter would have to say it during every cue and probably have a permanent dog saying this - dont forget people dip in and out of programmes, if they were just flicking through then international viewers could be very offended.

Not forgetting also the present situation,  with some parties involved in the war on terror - trying to make it a war on religion then a christmas tree could possibly do more harm than good!!

i think we underestimate people's inteligence - im sure 99% of the people on this earth have heard of christianity - and their response to it is pretty much the same as most peoples response to non-christians in the uk. if you asked an indian, egyptian or a chinese person why are there fir trees aound cities and towns in europe and america - im sure theyd know. i dont think theyd be offended, how can somebodies religion offend you - if that were the case bbc world wont be able to show ANY images of Downing Street, the white house etc. as they all have xmas trees.

the only people who will be offended are those looking to be offended.

I think it would be a nice touch if Moira Stewart was to wear a Christmas tree on her head.

I could just imagine Huw Edwards with his Pavorotti style voice singing 'We Wish You A Merry Christmas' with a lantern in his hand. Smile

That is pure political correctness at its best - and I despise it!

If some muslim in Asia gets offended by an Xmas tree in the BBC World studio, then they can lump it!

A friend of mine (who is even more patriotic than me!) recieved a letter from an annoymous person to take down the Union flag from the poll by his house, as it would 'Offend minority groups' of other countries and religions.

So basically, we are being told in Britain, that we cannot fly the British flag or be patriotic for fear of upsetting some foreigner who probably arrived in this country illegally.

It sickens me to think that this level of utter lunacy and political correctness instituted mainly by Mr Blair and the so-called European Union is rife in the country today.

If WW3 starts, the foreigners will bugger off back to their own countries anyway (hopefully) Smile

Political corrected has SURE gotten out of hand lately. If you think about it, why did immigrants come to the UK or another country from their homeland - to be granted a better opportunity to live. I would be surprised if a legal immigrant would be offended by the Union Jack... in order to become a citizen of the United Kingdom, don't you have to pledge your allegiance to the Queen (correct me if I'm wrong)? Sure, you don't have to give up your entire culture - THAT should be encouraged... but one must also give way to the Western culture that they will become surrounded in.

But... I certainly hope that British citizens of ethnic origin WON'T be forced into going back to their homelands... some of them consider UK or the country they live in now as home, and they must feel some sort of strong affinity to it. Illegal immigrants are another thing. Unless they claim refugee status, then they're gonna have to wait in a queue. It is completely unfair for the many legal immigrants who save up every single penny to move to a new and better country while those who are underhanded cheat the system and sneak into the country unnoticed. THOSE who are the ones who should go back.

Sorry for getting COMPLETELY OT on this thread. I hope I did not offend anyone with this post. If so, please PM me.

That 'big red thing on the wall' has been showing the US Flag since it was originated - are they going to change it at all?

Yes, it's a word, though I think the one you meant was 'inane'.
