Toys R Us seem to suffer from 'Coca Cola trucks syndrome' - they've been trying new ad campaigns for over a decade, but no matter what they do all everyone wants is that original 80s/90s jingle. Similarly Coca Cola spend thousands of pounds every year on glossy high-budget ads, but they still have to run the 1990s trucks ad for a few weeks to keep everyone happy.

yes - although I appreciate the effort I think it's a shame they have to hack off the ending (although I appreciate "always Coca Cola" is 'off message' now).

this'll be the original version of it.

Is Magical Place used anywhere else or is just a UK tradition?

That's the main problem - as far as I can tell the trucks were basically a Christmas version of the Always Coca-Cola advert that ran in the US at least. Not sure if it was ran here.

Obviously they've then gone and made new Christmas adverts when that slogan/campaign was retired but people keep asking for the trucks and so they just hacked the new jingle/slogan onto the end of the old advert. I feel like it could be done a bit better but obviously they won't want to improve an old ad campaign when they are trying to push this year's.

The 1990s trucks version they always bring out every late November is so basic, I presume they don't use this last version anymore due to the 'Always Coca Cola' tagline sung throughout:

Yeah. The version used the last few years lacks the sense of climax you got with it when originally aired. It's good that they do it, but a shame that they can't seem to allow the words 'always' and 'coca-cola' to be used together any more.

What an awful advert, the song rhyming seems to fall apart after the first 2 lines.

It's odd about "always coca-cola" as I never interpreted it as "always drink coke to the exclusion of all other liquids" rather it being a reference to its longevity/ubiquity

The irony is that although it's probably the most famous Christmas ad Coca-cola is probably the one thing nobody ever buys anybody as a Christmas present.

It's not ironic at all - it's advertised heavily for exactly the same reason as Pringles, Mayonnaise and the supermarkets - people spend big on food and drink over Christmas and New Year.

YouTub user anicetune has incorporated the famous Toys R Us ad with what the company clearly wants to advertise and it works well.

I think I can remember similar ads to these?
