People, both on social media and store colleagues, are highlighting the apparent hypocrisy of Sainsbury's implying how important it is to be with family at Christmas, yet they're staff are working their arses off right up until Christmas Eve and expected to work on Boxing Day.

I actually really like the Sainsbury's ad - it's quite relatable and warm. Apparently there are different, shorter ads being run over the next month that show the neighbours together preparing for Christmas.
I wonder if this could be the start of a longer campaign that uses the characters all year round.

Digressing here but interesting to see acampaign today for shops to remain shut on Boxing Day too.
To be fair they get Christmas Day off and New Year's Day in most cases. It's not an advert for the people that work there.

It's reached 185,000 now - I see that many are disillusioned by the fact that Christmas has been commercialised to a point that it begins to lose it's spiritual meaning and workers who are pushed to the limits during the last week of the year.

I noticed when in Aldi today that they are shut both Christmas and Boxing day. Probably one of the only stores to not open on Boxing day but I was so pleased to see it. The country won't collapse if shops are shut for 2 days in a row. People spend hundreds the week before Christmas, they they go out again the day after for God knows what!

Lidl last year as a whole was closed on Boxing Day and it fell on a Saturday and they also were as a whole closed on New Year's Day as well.
That being said, the Boxing Day sales are a tradition but if shops are closed, they can't happen. "December 27th Sales" doesn't quite have the same ring to it.

Next certainly are open, not sure if this is still the case but I recall in the past they used to open their stores at a ridiculously early time, something like 6am, on Boxing Day.
Don't John Lewis shut on Boxing Day too normally? And I think Next also. Mainly to prepare for their sales.
