The weirdest thing about the whole thing is how it's so associated with the start of the festive season, yet it's not even a Christmas ad! When it launched it was used all year around.
I grew up with that as a "Christmas advert". I don't know if it's the line "there's a magical place" with the twinkly sound that makes it feel festive, or maybe it's a generation of kids who used to watch them before fetching their Christmas list.
ITV giving us all a present this year - from Monday 21st to Friday 1st not a single episode of Jeremy Kyle scheduled during waking hours on the main channel.

I bet Murder she wrote is its replacement.
Only on the Sunday. Rebound airs from Mon 21st but just for three episodes, then it's various Christmas content with Dickenson's Real Deal from the 28th - so don't really get why they're bothering with the three episodes of Rebound as I'm sure they aired them all in the summer so it isn't like they're burning them off.
Christmas Day now looking like this:
BBC1
4.45pm Stick Man
5.15pm Doctor Who
6.15pm Strictly
7.30pm Call the Midwife
8.45pm EastEnders
9.45pm Mrs Browns Boys
10.20pm Michal McIntyre
ITV
5.15pm Nations Favourite Disney Song
6.15pm News
6.30pm Emmerdale
7.30pm Coronation Street
8.30pm Downton Abbey
10.30pm Our Cilla

The little channel specific sting that plays on iPlayer ahead of BBC Two programmes has now changed to a Christmas ident from the yellow era - so perhaps retro pres this Christmas over the lovely idents we've had for the past few years?

I liked the fairy ident from 2001. Seeing three from that era would make a change from the village scenes.

I hope they're going flat out retro then and not just 1 or 2 from that era which, while fine within the wider context of the yellow campaign, are hardly design classics in their isolated selves. Very interested to see how they handle the surrounding presentation.
Sad to see the demise of the 2011 ident, the only recent example of well-rounded BBC2 presentation.
