Almost as if the main channels have decided not to bother this year - there's a few things on Christmas Eve on BBC2 that look promising, however - and it pains me to say this - BBC1's lineup over the three days looks equally as bad as ITV's. There is what appears a fairly reliable channel 4 schedule on Digiguide for those of you who have it.
Can someone explain to me why channel controllers don't save up some of the many decent one-off dramas, documentaries and comedy that get commissioned the rest of the year for this one day? Are Christmas schedules of mediocre sitcoms what people really want to watch?
As I say, a few things on BBC2 look appealing - all I can point to from BBC1 is Calendar Girls on Sun 24 (which clashes with the stuff on 2) and 'Entrapment' on Christmas Day (how many times has *that* been shown before?), I quite like the look of BBC4's schedule going into the New Year.
Why not move the Royal Variety Performance closer to Christmas, or show an episode of Planet Earth or Coast or something. Anyone remember Noel's Christmas Presents, straight after the Queen's speech? Why can't someone else do something like that?
Thankfully I have plenty of DVDs, books, podcasts and radio programmes to rely on..
Grim indeed. I know ITV don't make much money over Christmas but the sheer tedium of their schedules makes me want to hurl. It's just laziness personified - I can't think they've made an effort in recent years at all, 2004 slightly excluded.
I have to admit, even though I usually watch BBC One on Christmas Day, this year looks particularly lacklustre. The only things that are new for me are Doctor Who and The Vicar of Dibley (but both of those are old shows that have been resurrected). Monsters Inc. I've seen, Pirates of the Carribean I don't care about. Babe again, My Family again, EastEnders as usual...nothing stands out too much for me.
ITV1 I don't watch on Christmas Day, or at all now really, and BBC Two has another ballet and nothing else of interest. Oh dear.
So no TOTP Xmas show then? I thought it was said on here that it would remain - or was it a rumour?
