On the subject of potential female Top Gear presenters - not that I ever watch it - what about Jodie Kidd? She's into her cars and presented something with Quentin Wilson this year.

She knows her cars, but not sure she's got much in the way of presenting ability.

I watched said show not that long ago (buggered if I remember the name but it was classic car related) and she wasn't particularly enjoyable to watch.

Already the BBC politically correct brigade are interfering. Presumably the producer will be someone with no b@lls who wont stand up to BBC management unlike Andy Wilman.

I would like to know what was the advice given to Evans from Clarkson which he wasn't going to repeat... I guess it would be don't trust that X:@~ Cohen.

Chris Evans is Exec Producing it isn't he? He's not known for his subservience.

Indeed not.

I can't believe all of this is signed and sealed, if, as Evans claims, it was all initiated only a week ago. He's presenter and producer, there'll be no end of contract detail to discuss and agree.

Just like an estate agent's 'Sold' board, there must be a 'Subject To Contract' caveat to all this ?

Either that, or this deal has been forged over the last few weeks, (not what Evans claimed this morning)

I guess that depends whether he's Exec Producer in an honorific, in-name-only vanity way (as Ant and Dec claimed after the phone scandal) or whether he will really be fully involved.

Chris Evans has made his millions from making TV - not pretending he makes TV.

As a Top Gear fan myself, I happy with Chris being named as lead presenter. I guess over the next few weeks, in various locations around the M25, screen tests with the other presenters will be conducted (if you read Hammond's auto bio, and know your independent studios in London, it's a pretty solid shout his was done at Duke Island Studios on the A40 - also home to Lord Sugar's Boardroom set) because we all know how good Evans is on screen - but the success of Top Gear 3.0 will live and die by the on-screen chemistry he has with the co-hosts.

It's interesting who is going to be part of the presenting line-up. You would think it's either going to be Jodie Kidd or Suzi Perry as 'the woman presenter', and also, it may be significant, but BTCC racing driver and someone not immune from appearing in front of the cameras, Jason Plato, was also in the bar for the re-boot of TFI Friday. New avenues and all that. His touring car and racing career must be nearing its natural life. I was driving as him in the first touring car game for the PlayStation 1, about 15 years ago!

Wonder if this also means the end of Chris presenting the Friday One Show? Could this herald the return of Adrian Chiles back to the show - which would have a certain irony to it, given Chris turning up for one show per week was one of the reasons Adrian leapt so quickly across to the massively successful 'Daybreak'.

There was one other stray comment Evans made on Radio Two this morning that may be significant in keeping one element of 'old new' Top Gear going.
Evans said he and James May (and respective partners/families) went to France on a short break a few weeks ago. He said later on that as well as sitting down and talking to the Top Gear production team, he would 'be speaking to James over the coming days, and see what's what' (or words to that effect),

Curious. I wonder if it may be that James, whilst not on screen, is retained in some capacity behind the scenes on the show. With his journo background, it's not entirely inconceivable that James could test some of the cars before filming starts to give the team and presenter some well crafted pointers to throw in to the commentary on the film report.

There was a throwaway comment from Chris whilst being interviewed where he asked Alex if they "were tears of joy" earlier today. The joking context seemed to suggest he may have privately announced he was leaving the One Show.

Surprised he stuck with The One Show for so long - think he's probably done if for longer than he did TFI Friday.

It shouldn't be too surprising he's clearly grown up a lot since then.

Yes, he has, but these last few days, firstly with TFI and now Top Gear, his radio show has been rather too much, Me Me Me

What do you expects? TFI was his show and now he has to sort out Top Gear.
