Hopefully he will have learnt his lesson from that time in his life. Hopefully he is now mature enough to concentrate on the job in hand.
I think his natural radio talents could be a real treat for the listener.
He wont please everyone but no DJ ever will. But I think he will certainly be more of a plus for Radio 2 than a minus.

Plus the fantastic Tommy Boyd at Southern Counties is moving to afternoons - which used to be his gig on Talk Radio in the good old days
Yes indeed, his last saturday night show is this weekend
Correction, it wasn't the last one

Great news! I think this is a good decision - and will attract yet more younger listeners to Radio 2's daytime schedule.
Is there any word on what will happen on Saturday afternoons from April? I'll miss Chris's show (assuming he gives it up), as it really suits its timeslot - great to listen to while you're out and about in the car.
I wonder if Dermot O'Leary will get his old slot back, or if there will be yet another star signing...?

Stuart Maconie's taking over from Chris Evans, which will thankfully make Saturday afternoons listenable again. And why does Radio 2 need to attract younger listeners - what's Radio 1 for then? In fact, can't Radio 1 just take Evans back? Five days a week of him on R2 is just too depressing a thought to contemplate - think I'll be switching to Lamacq on 6 Music instead.

Yes quite !
Nearly all broadcasting seems to be aiming itself at a 20 something short attention span audience, the irritating presentation techniques on all five main TV channels is indicative of that (says he bringing this back to TV

What a complete mistake by the controllers of Radio 2. Mr Walker is a radio legend and a great listen at drivetime. Unless the move is of his own choice (which I think it may well be) why do they mess around with a successful formula?
I'm just one of thousands that will tune away from Radio 2 at 5pm weekedays. Can't stand Mr Evan on the telly let alone on the radio!!

I think this is really good news, I've heard him on Radio 2 a few times and I thought he was excellent - a lot more mature than people probably imagine him being. As always though, Chris Evans is a love-him-or-hate-him guy, I personally think he's brilliant but I can see a lot of regular listeners not being too happy.
Good luck to him though.

It is of his own choice, he's been through a serious illness - you can hardly blame him for wanting to take it easy. He had been asking to move shifts for a while. Who could you suggest that coud replace Johnnie Walker and keep the same 'successful formula' that is on air now? Like all the best DJs there is no-one who could move into that slot and do things exactly like Walker.
In the same way, it is a mistake to try and second guess what Chris Evans and his producers will do with the drivetime slot. I think everyone should wait until the programme starts, put their prejudices behind them and give the programme a try before whinging.
Radio is a very personal medium and the reaction to people leaving is always more than a TV presenter leaving... but that doesn't mean that nothing should ever change.

Radio 2 has needed to get younger because its audience from the 80's and 90's is dying off. If it carried on targeting a particular generation (for example, its target audience from when it launched) and followed that through it would be in big trouble because t here would soon be no-one else to broadcast to.
Generations change, we're now in the age where the traditional Radio 2 demographic of today grew up in the 60's and 70's.... they don't want to hear the music that Radio 2 played 10 years ago and they don't even want to hear 'gold' stations. My parents are a good example, they are 60 and so in the traditional target Radio 2 audience... but they don't want to listen to Sing Something Simple or 'middle of the road' which was the traditional format of radio 2. My mother is perfectly happy with music by boy bands, Will Young or Katie Melua, in fact I know an 80 year old who likes modern boy bands as well as old standards. A 60 year old 10 years ago would have totally diffrent tastes, but then they didn't grow up with rock and roll.
I'm rapidly approaching 30 and I think Radio 2 is great. There are some things I like and some that I don't, but then R2 is still a fairly broad church - the specalist stuff after 7pm and on Sundays is very specialist and won't appeal to everyone
