Well the "Joseph" audition show beat the ITV equivalent for Grease something like 2.5 to 1! In It To Win It is also popular but I think that's because Dale Winton is a charismatic, likeable presenter. strictly Come Dancing often beats X-factor and vice versa. With regards to your comments on ITV shows, Pop Idol, Popstars and X-Factor are technically the same show. The hits ITV have are rehashed in the same way as BBC1's are. I would say that TV companies in general now find it difficult to make viewers "love" a show like they did in the 70's and 80's. ITV have hits like Ant and Dec Saturday Night Takeaway which is Noels House party in disguise and the BBC rely more on drama and the lottery formatted shows. with regards to the lottery shows, some are dire! Some are good. All in all though, both the BBC and ITV are guilty of copycat programming.
This is true but the ITV shows connect with the public better than the BBC1 shows apart from Strictly Come Dancing. To be honest most of these vote them off shows follow the Pop Idol format, three judges, premium rate number etc. BBC1 need a few more hits, there is rehashing as we all know Dancing On Ice is Strictly Ice Dancing. But at this point in time ITV's biggest light entertainment hits are different to each other whereas BBC1's are pretty similar.

There is only one good Lottery show and that's In It To Win It the others I just don't like.

I agree cyclon - except for In it to Win It. I do think there's a good format there somewhere, but just give us the bloody answer - dont' spend ten minutes going through the pros and cons of each option.

Like the entertainment shows though the Lottery shows on the whole have the same problem - they all pretty much look the same.

Precisely the light entertainment shows are just too similar. A few years back BBC1 had Paul Daniels, Noel's House Party and The Gen Game, all unique to each other. I suppose it's difficult to come up with something new but I wish they would.

Be careful what you wish for. That human tetris programme is destined for Saturday nights.

And why do I get the feeling that it could be a hit? Confused

The live programmes started tonight - as I understand it, from here to the end it's a knockout format in the same vein as the I'd Do Any Solution To A Problem Like Anything Will Do programmes. Six choirs qualified from the eliminators.

I must say, Nick Knowles is improving as the weeks go by. Initially he was too much "that man off DIY SOS brought in because Myleene Klass couldn't possibly host the show on her own", but he's started to become less cringeworthy in his presenting style. The series, as a whole, is better than the How Do You Do Anything Which Will Do format (but then again, I suppose that's because Graham ruddy Norton isn't hosting it).

I have to say when this started I was very dismissive, because I thought this would just be another talent show format, but it is actually growing on me week by week.

And the thing that's different from other wannabe pop start type shows, is that the people on here genuinely seem to like and be involved with music.

A certain wannabe popstar show returns on Saturday so Last Choir Standing might be left in its wake.
