P.S. Caught a few minutes of the new Lottery show too - looked absolutely awful, and the set seemed to be something we've seen used before on dozens of other BBC shows.

We are well into crap telly season aren't we ? That Lottery show really was woeful.

I watched the lottery show getting recorded in Glasgow. Took almost 3 hours and we all had to pretend it was "live" and clap like seals every 5 seconds. Such is life....

Tess didn't seem such a fan of the show format in real life either....
They made that in Glasgow?

If an hour long show takes 3 hours to record that isn't a good thing. She is a rubbish host too, just like Gaby Roslin. No genuine wit at all.

The new lottery show didn't even try to pretend it was Live, it had so many scene changes (Sorry don't know the technical term!) it was more than obvious it was recorded.

Bring back 1 vs 100, all is forgiven!

Yep they did at Pacific Quay, in the same studio as Postcode Challenge from STV, IIRC.
Well she didn't even bother talking to the crowd, and didn't really come across well at all, IMO of course.
Yeah, we were there for 3.30pm...didn't get into the studio til 6pm, then didn't get out til 9.....where we were pestered at the exit to go and watch Tomorrows recording, to which we politely declined, as I had a prior engagement watching paint dry....

Yes, that Lottery show is crip!

I don't think it's good enough to be called crap. The only good Lottery show is In It To Win It. The only other one I liked was Winning Lines.

There is nothing wrong with 1 vs 100.

But it begs the question what is the bloody point of the show in the first place when they just stick the lottery draws on at the end after the credits?! Laughing

BBC2 also did Classical Star - basically Britain's Got Talent , but with classical musicians.

Except it wasn't. Classical Star featured (I believe) 10 very promising young musicians sharing a house and learning from experienced professionals. I don't watch Britain's Got Talent , but I don't imagine that it was so nice, friendly and helpful to all the contestants. Yes, there were some cringeworthy moments (such as the PR-man judge telling the rest of the panel that "a bassoon can't win - the readers of Classic FM magazine won't know what it is!") but the bulk of the show was a very useful programme to watch as an educational tool.

As for Last Choir Standing , I didn't really enjoy it last night, though I do think that it will improve when the live shows come about. Both Myleene Klass and Nick Knowles didn't really host, the judges did and they just did some random voice-overs. The background music was also quite excruciating.

Hopefully it will sort itself out, because the programme does have some potential (although does the "last choir standing" actually win anything?)

I didn't see the Lottery show, but at least PQ's main studio is being used for a big network show. It's the only HD BBC-owned studio outside London and if they've got the installation and build right, it deserves to get used a lot. Whether it will get used a lot remains to be seen!

In actual fact, hardly any of the Lottery gameshows have ever been live. The original National Lottery programme (with Mystic Meg, musical performances, good causes films etc) was live, but when the gameshow wrap-around-the-draw type format was brought in, although the draw remained live, the gameshow was often presented 'as-live' but was off tape, usually recorded on the day or on the day before TX.

How large is that studio compared to other large studios in the UK?

I think quite a few of the lottery shows are made up in Glasgow now - I know there was a "scandal" about the cost of flying Eammon Holmes up each week for Jetset.

TBH though these shows are just being relocated to Glasgow to make their Scottish quota of network programmes look better - no real benefit to the viewer there.

Around 8400 square feet, which makes it it the largest TV studio in the UK outside of London I believe. In other words, smaller than TC1 (10,250 square feet), but a little bit bigger than TC3,4,6, and 8 (8,000 square feet)

AIUI there are three studios at PQ - with two galleries. If all three studios are required at once, then an OB truck can be parked outside to provide a third gallery, with tielines installed to provide the required connectivity.

PQ has already been used for "The Kids Are Alright" ISTR.

The lottery show was AWFUL. The luggage carousel thing looked like a cheesy rip-off of Deal or No Deal , the contestants and audience were made to look like idiots, and Tess Daly looked like she had two live sheep on each arm.
