Childrens TV shows

Cast your mind back to the days when you were a nipper - what classic Childrens TV programmes can you remember enjoy watching?

Sooty / Rainbow / Button Moon / The Wind In The Willows / ChuckleVision / Wacaday

Can anyone remember a classic childrens programme called Pug ? Apparently he used to come upto your TV screen and cover it with spit!

Blue Peter, Going Live, Beat the Teacher, Double Dare (gungy game show which was part of Going Live) and does anyone remember something called Kick Start? It had kids riding motorbikes over an assault course. I think Peter Purves commentated.

Hmm .. Thomas The Tank Engine lurks first in my mind (the 1986 Ringo Starr series, not the later series), and Gummi Bears was cool too! I also liked Trap Door, Fat Tulip Two, James the Cat and Roobarb and Custard - they don't make programmes like THAT any more .. thank God! I didn't like Why Don't You, but I always watched it .. odd!

Well I always remember Botton Moon, Puddle Lane and this other programme which was presented by Paul Daniels, but I can't remember the name of it!

Now you mention it Katherine I do remember Going Live. The name 'Double Dare' rings a bell, but from what you have written I can't still can't seem to remember what the game was like!

Could the programme you are referring to be :

'Wizbit?'  

Wizbit was ISTR a man in a foam-rubber cone-suit?  (I remember some dodcy-ish CSO as well, and a big rabbit)

ISTR that it also featured Vicky Lickorish as a gate keeper - who used to appear on Saturday Superstore (or was it Going Live?)

Ah - Kick Start (and also Junior Kick Start) was roughly the same era as Paddles Up.

Kick Start was sort of trail-biking, and Paddles Up was Canoeing / Kayaking.

Well - being a child of the 70's and 80's...

Early favourites :

Mary, Mungo and Midge
Mr Benn
Camberwick Green, Trumpton and Chigley
Rupert the Bear (fab theme tune)
And of course - Playschool and Playaway.
(I also loved Vision On! - especially the little red bits of fur that shot all over the studio - I was too youngto realise they were just tied to bits of fishing line)

Rentaghost was also a fave - though it got a bit silly with the arrival of the dragon ('Don't go into the cellar...')

Pipkins (Shock Horror - an ITV show!)

Blue Peter (I know sad) was always a watch

Why Don't You ? in the school holidays

Ulysses and Mysterious Cities of Gold (for their fab theme tunes)

All of the Johnny Ball science and maths programmes.
Eureka was also good - Wilf Lunn and his exploding hats...

I really enjoyed Tony Harts' various series -Take Hart and HartBeat - though couldn't stand Mr Bennett... (and still can't draw for toffee)

Awww - you've got me all nostalgic now. Is it me or were children's shows more varied in years gone by? There was almost always a good drama on Wednesday afternoons.

Peter Simon - who used to present Double Dare... Is at this very moment presenting Bid.Up TV on Sky Digital channel 647.

Spooky... Old CBBC presenters don't disappear... They just end up on Home Shopping Channels or Challenge TV.

(Andy Crane on Shop!, Toby Anstis on Challenge TV, Sophie Aldred (of Dr Who and Maureen and Melvins Marvellous Musicograms fame) has also been seen on Shop!)

I also remember 'The Tommorow People' with happy memories

Peter Simon is also the warm-up man for Weakest Link episodes where there's an audience (evening shows, celebrity specials).

Double dare....Gah,he is now on Bid-Up.tv,i cant belive it!!!!!!!!!It has been bothering me where he was from,as i could picture him on some kind of game show,the most unusual people turn up on shopping channels!
