LoL! Haven't seen that photo before - it brings it all flooding back! The UKTV channels were transmitted from control rooms across the corridor from BBC World and BBC Prime. World, Prime and Arabic (the original BBC World Service TV Arabic) were transmitted from control rooms built in around 1994, using Beta SP tape playout, IBIS Landscape automation and one Odetics Beta SP cart machine. These suites were used continuously 24/7 until 2004/5 and were 4:3 throughout their life.

How those suites lasted so long I have no idea. Their suites were almost pre-historic compared with what the UKTV guys across the corridor were using and both suites had bolt-ons galore as new things were needed. I couldn't imagine an equivalent channel like CNN coming from such a facility!

They and the UKTV channels are good examples of why the Broadcast Centre is a good concept (the original concept even before the sell-off) - they came from small area with very little room to expand except squeezing more kit into already packed apps rooms and suites. There's no way they'd have been able to put out the current range of UKTV and Worldwide channels from there

Well just to have a facility where you could add a new service or channel easily without having to rebuild part of a 1960's building, squeeze it into an existing area or locate it elsewhere in the building.

It's purpose built and open plan so when they get a new client or an existing one wants to expand it's fairly easy to install the kit and get the channel up and running

Sorry to drag this one up. But can anyone remember all the presenters on BBC's Play School? Old friend and I currently having a memory lapse about the name of one long-haired lady presenter (not Floella) who had a face similar to the Jemima doll (sorry, but that's the best way we can describe her). If we recall correctly, she used to always wear waistcoats and long skirts.

We know it's not Carol Chelle (sp?) or Toni someone or other.

Also, there was another Carol?

Anyone as old as me, but with a better memory?

Wow, that was fast, Michael. Thanks. But have googled images of most of the names listed and it's none of those which show. We think it may be the late Sarah Long? But can't find a picture of her.

Carol Leader was the 2nd Carol we were thinking of. She of Holby Casualty fame.
