On ITV, the lunchtime kids shows were, as mentioned at twelve o'clock, but in 1987 as part of the first morning line-up they moved them an hour earlier, dropping the ten minute show but keeping the twenty minute show at 11.10. Everyone complained though - and it must have been a bit of a pain to schedule - so it moved back to 12.10 shortly afterwards. The kids shows stayed there until September 1993 when they moved to 3.30.

Children's ITV had been in the late afternoon slot onwards long before 1993. The service was effectively "done properly" for want of a better description, with live links and what not from 1987 onwards, having previously been a cut-and-paste job for four years prior to that.

Anyway I'm almost certain that the 12:10 programme window on ITV was still going by 1992, because it disappeared at about the same time that Rainbow ended, which was just after the 1991 Franchise round, but had enough episodes to air on ITV until March 1992. I'd be surprised if the 12:10 children's slot was still around in 1993.

I think there was a bit of crossed wires there and you're both saying the same thing - the programmes for younger children were at 12:10 until 1993 when they moved to 3:30, and while Children's ITV had long been in the afternoon slot, it was programmes for older children and started at about 3:55-ish.

I remember the move being in 1993 in particular because a couple of the new programmes in the slot (Alphabet Castle and Wizardora) were two of the first networked programmes from Carlton and Meridian. Despite the franchise round being overwhelmingly a bad thing, it was quite exciting at the time to get programmes from brand new ITV companies.

Lunchtime CITV definitely lived on beyond Rainbow, Tots TV first appeared in that slot - but it didn't last much longer than that. I remember watching Tots TV before going in to nursery in the afternoon (the pre-school style nursery, not day nursery), but by the time I started school in September 1994 I'd got used to watching Sesame Street on Channel 4 instead.

Oh, and it was definitely 'live' rather than a recording - we didn't get a video recorder until a couple of years later.

That's right. The lunchtime slot stayed at 12.10 until September 1993 because the first episodes of Tots TV and Wizadora, produced by Carlton and Meridian respectively, were in that slot in January 1993, taking over from Rainbow which had of course ended with Thames. At the time Children's ITV in the afternoons began at 3.50.

Then in September 1993 Children's ITV began at 3.30 with the pre-school programmes moving from lunchtime to fill the first twenty minutes, allowing This Morning to be extended to run up to the news.

From September 1993 This Morning only got an extra ten minutes until 12.20pm and then the Regional News moved to the 12.20-30 slot, from that September I'm sure was the start of the afternoon repeats for Coronation Street, which I think were usually shown either side of Home & Away. The whole afternoon schedule changed from September 1993, so stuff like The Young Doctors which was usually shown at 3.20pm had gone because of Childrens ITV starting earlier.

I don't think every region were showing Corrie in the afternoon at that point. Some were showing the other cheap aussie soaps.

I love the fact we've had a thread started to talk about Children's BBC to stop taking another thread off track and within a few pages we've taken it off track to talk about ITV's daytime schedule. Razz

Produced for, but not by.. because this was the new era of ITV publisher broadcasters.

I think I'm right in saying that at some point in the 80's they started repeating the lunchtime programme as the first item of Children's ITV?

Wasn't Tots TV a Ragdoll production for Central? Like Rosie & Jim was, certainately Wizadora was an indy production for Meridian, and I think the first series was copyrighted to 1992.

I think it was round about the time when Children's ITV was branded as such in 1983. It was normally the 12 noon programme except in the case when they repeated Rainbow, which was shown at 12.10pm. I seem to remember it was the new episode of Rainbow - two episodes were shown at lunchtime, one new and one repeat.

IIRC PMQs moved not long after Labour came into power.

Yes until Tony Blair became Prime Minster 1997 PMQs were on Tuesday and Thursday afternoon, IIRC at 3:30pm. decided to combine the two 15 minute sessions into one 30 minute session

True - but I was referring to the shifting from 3.30 to midday as happened in January 03, which was the scheduling change which killed off the lunchtime CBBC/CBeebies slot as The Daily Politics would be on air instead.

Being honest there do have about 20 channels on sky and 3-4 on freeview ( im sure pop is still on there)

Apart from BBC and small amout on CITV there very little uk production any more which is a shame, it now all from across the sea, like Ben 10 or SB pants.

Some of the stuff on Cbeebies is joke, like that taking farm shows with a pig etc, But Something special should be rewarded
