If you were eagle eyed, you might have spotted that my last post whilst watching CIN was at 10:04pm last night. After that I made no more posts the rest of the time it was on.
You see, just after Mastermind started on BBC Two I went downstairs to watch CIN through to midnight. That meant being away from my computer. If I'd had a wireless laptop, I could have gone on posting whilst downstairs. Unfortunately (or luckily depending which way you look at it), I don't have a wireless laptop so couldn't post whilst downstairs.
Anyway, I enjoyed seeing the rest of Mastermind. I was surprised that woman won with 35 points, I expected the other bloke who finished on 33 to win.
Back on BBC One from 10:35pm to midnight, the action continued. The total was £15,069,028 at 10:35pm, so I felt sure they'd make it well past last year's grand total. I enjoyed the performances from cast of Legally Blonde - The Musical, Harry Connick Jr singing "Just The Way You Are", David Gray & Annie Lennox and the repeat showing of EastEnders' Motown medley. Perhaps my favourite during that near hour and a half was the bloke who sang "Delilah" by Tom Jones. All first class acts, I say which I was really impressed with.

I was a bit disappointed with Spandau Ballet's "True", I don't particularly like it in their new key. I much prefer the original version that came out in 1983; indeed I have the 7 inch of that from 1983, as well as that song being a track on the "I Love 80s" album. My only disappointment in this period was Poirot, I've never been that keen on Poirot (or Miss Marple for that matter).
I finally switched off at midnight to go to bed. This morning around 9:30 I began watching the rest of the coverage on video. I thought Madness were going to do a medley of several hits, but did just one: "It Must Be Love". I remember that from the early 1980s, if only indoor adventure play complexes (with soft play, ball pits, Astra slides and drop slides) and water slides had been around when that was in the charts. The next outstanding performance was Priscilla singing "Colour My World" and "I Will Survive". The Nolan Sisters and Cast of Jersey Boys also performed great medleys of hits. Just over half an hour before the end, it was time for a repeat of the newsreaders' act. I enjoyed seeing that again. Alison Moyet's "Love Letters" deserves a mention too, I also enjoyed hearing this performance. It reminded me of Royal Mail ads of years ago "We Know All Our Customers By Name". Avenue Q was OK, though not one of my favourites. Altogether a superb selection to fill the last two hours.
I was disappointed that the grand total was £20,309,747, as that was down on last year's end of night total £20,991, 216. A pity there, I was hoping they'd break the £21 million barrier. Despite the recession (though for various reasons, I have my doubts as to whether there really is one or not), RND 09 netted £57 million odd. Funny how people had the money to give to that back in March. Well done to those who raised that money all the same.
On the whole, Children In Need 2009 was a great night of first class entertainment, with loads of music performances. Well done once again to Peter Kay with his animated masterpiece, that was one of my favourite bits of the night. If I had to name my other favourites, it would include EastEnders Motown medley, and "Delilah". All I can now say is, the whole thing was several orders of magnitude better than the tommyrot we had to suffer and endure (e.g. Harry Hill, Victorian Dragon's Den, footballers' boring trash) the night of RND 09 back in March. RND 09 could have been so much better if that had featured more pop performances, a medley from EastEnders, a newsreaders act, interspersed with more stand-up comics than just Jason Manford (he was good). RND 0, CIN 9.
