Could someone enlighten me whether or not during Children In Need there are still regional opt-outs on the night? Also at what time(approx)?
I can remember Nigel Jay at a desk with a Pudsey in the North West a few years back.
BBC Scotland still do opt outs, or rather 'opt ins' to the network as they cut everything up and show it later than the rest of the network like with the newsreaders last year.
Wales do optouts as well. Longer than the rest of the network too. Wales stay opted out for about 20-30mins! You miss HUGE chunks of the show
I find that in the welsh optouts they dont really care much about viewers than the network does. I tends to look like they optout for the sake of it and dont really have anything to say . To add insult to injury they have the bits of the network feed your missing and put them on a screen in the background . Luckly after about 11pm they all go to bed and join the network feed till the end.
Yes they did away with the regional opt outs in England a few years ago. I think all we get now is a local 'here's where your money went' film every now and then.
At one time here in the North we used to have such entertainment as Peter Levy holding a talent show live from the West Yorkshire Playhouse!
Yes, the traditional sort of regional opt-out finished a few years ago, now they just have short 5 minutes films about how money was raised and where it went in your region. They're quite subtley done now, unless you're really concentrating you don't notice that they are regional bits.
However having said that I believe there will be at least 1 live regional opt-out this year

I hate watching CIN on BBC Wales, due to the opt-outs. They used to be the same length as the regional opt-outs, but now they're ridiculous. I watch most of the show on BBC ONE West, but I can only pick that up downstairs so am usually forced to watch the end of the show on BBC ONE Wales, inc opt-outs.

and it's dreadfully cheap. I complained to them last year. I wonder if they'll do it from the old Live and Kicking set again.
BBC Birmingham with it's mix of Midlands Today presenters, the odd local radio (WM) presenter (definetly odd in the case of Malcolm Boyden !), & ISTR Kirsten Whatsit from CBBC at least one year !
I have a few on tape still. From memory,1993, for Dr Who 30th year thing, 1998(Tony & Julie from BBC WM presenting little 'whiz around the patch' bits), 1999, 2000 (one of the last 2 having the legend that is Ed Doolan live somewhere in Brum (BT I think))
