Can't say I'll be watching CiN tonight. Dermot has always been too bland IMHO.

Don't most people watch it for the various sketches and features though? It doesn't really affect your enjoyment of the show.

Oh it does, I stopped watching Strictly when Bruce Forsyth left. The main presenter is key.

(Strictly has benefited from a poor X-Factor since he left with increased share)

I have also spoken to someone whose immediate reaction to the news was to say they weren't watching because of him.

I can understand if you stop watching a weekly show like Strictly or The X Factor because a new presenter is not as good, but this is a fundraising show, shown once a year - the presenting job is mainly to link between the various films. Yes it's a shame he's not doing it, and no doubt when people think of CiN do they think of him presenting it, but Terry Wogan will presumably have to stop presenting it one day anyway. Unless they build a Woganbot of course.

The BBC announced Dermot O'Leary would be stepping in to front the annual fundraiser from 19:30 - 22:00 GMT.

"We are incredibly grateful to Dermot for stepping in at such short notice but know he'll do us and Sir Terry proud," the corporation said.

I'm guessing a replacement for after 10pm has either yet to be sorted or they'll re-shuffle the other presenters if possible. Dermot seems like a fairly good choice of host, having plenty of experience of live TV. I can't remember if he's appeared on Children in Need before or just with Red Nose Day.

From what I heard on Grimmy this morning, him and Rochelle are hosting 10:30-2:00 together. That section of the show has been downgraded in recent years, almost straight into repeats from 11:00 and then just linking into west end shows from 12:00, that a bigger name host is probably not a priority.

I really do not think that Mr Cowell will be impressed with Grimmy and Rochelle presenting a longer shift than what was planned, especially with X Factor tomorrow.

This isn't about Wogan, but a presenter who is so Marmite that he's distracting enough to switch off from the charity films and entertainment segments. I'm sure they'll be people that will prefer O'Leary's delivery from the X Factor audience, but I personally can't tolerate him and his monotone voice.

If it's also the case that it's Grimmy and Rochelle Humes from 11pm, that's just as much of a turn off for me as Dermot O'Leary is. It's not about age, but presentation style.

I'm sure I'll be able to watch the charity films and entertainment segments on iPlayer tomorrow in my own time without having to bite my tongue during the links and still donate to CiN without resorting to watching it live.

I bet he couldn't care less.

Riz was also on BBC One HD as well tonight.

Will the national version of BBC One HD show all London opt outs for the rest of tonight or not?
