Any other region completely thrown by that last regional link?! Ceri from South East Today and Dom from Dic and Dom are our presenters. They were running down the steps to get in position and the camera was all over the place!

I love the way the guy on the left desperately cues them on air when it's clear they're already on!

Bloody hell, we've got Steve Brookstein on! He's still alive.

As to the music fest, well BBC One do have to make up for it after losing TOTP.

Ah, so *that's* who is he is. (I'd like to think the opt was a typical SET cockup myself).

Apparently, the "BBC Newreaders" will be on later.

Are there volunteers doing the ticker as well? Laughing

Come back Gaby... The sycophancy of Natasha Kaplinsky is embarassing. I don't mind her as a newsreader but please don't let her loose with 'celebs'...

The thing I'm cringing about with Kerplunkski is the added whoa! after announcing a new act to the stage.

Newsreaders shouldn't do light entertainment because they are boring as hell. Don't believe me? Wwatch Sir Trevor McDonald sucking the life out of the Royal Albert Hall with his dreadful presenting of the National Television Awards.

Watching on BBC Scotland and the Sugarbabes are singing live. Something that is still on Girls Aloud's to do list.

As someone who has seen Girls Aloud in concert, I can confirm that they are perfectly competent live performers; sadly, as is so often the case on television these days, laziness creeps in and they choose to mime wherever possible.

Unfortunate, because they are perfectly capable of doing a complex dance routine and singing at the same time.

Fountain Studios where The X Factor comes from is the best large studio in the country.

Although technically its two studios joined together?

(I always wondered why there was no provision made for doing that at TVC..)

Can't Fountain lower a wall that divides the studio or something? It's still one massive space though and Fiends managed to film their London episodes there too. Do the BBC still claim that their Studio 1 is the largest in Europe? Like the article says I bet they're envious of the Fountain Studio.

Technically TVC1 is the biggest single studio in Europe. However, Fountain take this crown when they join Studios 1 & 2 together to create one huge studio.

Fountain's twin studios with a movable door in between at Wembley has been around for MANY years. It was built by Redifusion I believe - who held the London franchise BEFORE Thames. Can't remember if it was built before or after TV Centre - after I think - but not much.

The door takes 30 mins to open or close - and is driven by the same type of motor that rotates guns on battleships.

It is a brilliant idea - and it works very well for Fountain.

The BBC usually claim that TC1 is the largest "single" studio in Europe - as Wembley can't be described as a "single" studio.

The circular design of TV Centre kind of precludes the merging of two studios. TC1 was originally going to be a bit smaller than it is now - but they realised they could make it bigger without ruining the design of the whole building, and did so.

I think that the lack of TC9 (as originally envisaged as a TV Theatre replacement where the News Centre now is) was a real shame - but TC1 does have a lot going for it.

Jackie Bird should have been fired from BBC Scotland years ago.
With recent headlines about size 0 models, Jackie sets a terrible example. As my mum says (and many others, I'm sure) she needs an injection of mince...Very Happy
