I often wonder if these late night viewing figures even include those who've left the telly on and fallen asleep in front of it -as technically they're not "viewing" the programme!

Possibly. Even the number of people watching Ceefax was on the ratings list that I saw! That's probably people leaving it on while doing something else.

What I don't understand is why BBC One get rid of programmes such as Have I Got News For You, and Jonathan Ross, surely it's a chance to get the shows doing shorter, but special stints live in the studio.

Start off the show, have the Eastenders cast doing something special live, have a comedy sketch (the cast of Not Going Out could have done something) followed by Have I Got News For You, with Jonathan Ross popping up after the news along with various others doing something special.

It should be made a bit more entertaining though, it's good to have the music, but too much is a bad thing, else there's no point.

Exactly, we're subjected to song after song after song. The first part of the evening it's chart music & the second part of the evening is musicals!! AAAAAAARRRRGGGHHHH!!

I think the key difference between Comic Relief and Children in Need that while with Comic Relief celebs are lining up to genuinely support the cause, you get the impression Children in Need have to beg people to appear - and they pay a high price in plugs too!

there is a distinct difference between the two though. children in need is the bbc's domestic corporate charity, where as comic relief was set up by comedians - and it follows that there is probably more buy in from comedians for that event.

i think cin lost it when the regions were marginalised. ok the opts weren't polished, but that was part of the charm.

Was there a regional ticker rolling over the national coverage this year, with the regions soft opting. I can't remember if I saw one or not

Wonder if they've realised that they can't do it without putting pillar boxes up on digital?

One question about the musical acts (including the newsreaders) - are they all mimed? I'm sure at times they were out of sync. It seems a shame if they are though as they are professional musicians and so shouldn't be that hard to play live.
The TVC carpark gig was definitely live. (Also, incidentally, it was covered in HD thanks to the truck parked around the side of stage 6)

I wonder what happened to "David Beckham meeting Dot cotton" that sounded like fun but was never shown
