I can't say I'm greatly excited about this year's CiN telethon, aside from the Weakest Link special - nor can I say I've been greatly excited about the CiN telethon in general in the last few years, even when Tel was still with us.

But I fully understand, and accept, that the BBC won't care how slick and how formulaic the whole thing is, as long as the money raised on the night keeps increasing each year.

Very similar things can be said about Red Nose Day. Richard Osman's World Cup of Biscuits was great, but Jessie J having her head shaved wasn't exactly "The Belgians", and the singles aren't always inspiring (when it comes to "Uptown Girl", I'd far rather hear the fellow who also wrote it). But, again, I fully understand and accept that Comic Relief and the BBC won't care as long as plenty of dough is raised.

I thought the reason it was made clear for the sudden drop in donations during the middle part of the 90s was Black Wednesday and the overall total donations never recovered to match the 1991 total until 1999.

You can always rely on Northern Ireland to actually acknowledge what we are seeing rather than Network who just ploughed on regardless.

Now if I was a BBC accountant tasked with making savings, I'd be looking at Wales and Scotland presentation and those announcements and wondering what the point is and thinking about doing an ITV.

How often DID BBC Scotland to live CA on BBC one back in 1981?

As far as I'm aware, BBC Scotland announcers only covered regional programme opt-outs until c. 1977. Up until then, the network announcer was heard most of the time. From 1977, local continuity was introduced for all evening and weekend afternoon junctions. Not sure when they started covering daytime junctions across the week. Tony C will perhaps be able to shed some light on that.

The NI CA I think was the one on duty when BBC1 analogue closed down, so not surprised we got a crossover anorak intro into the show rather than the generic script.

Most of the telethons have been poor the last few years, this years Comic Relief was beyond poor with terrible presenters and the World Cup of Biscuits is a good thing for twitter but linking from a video about famine and starvation in Africa to what do you prefer a rich tea or a digestive didn't sit right with me. However I completely agree that it doesn't matter how good or bad a telethon is, it is at the end of the day raising money.
