The whole of CiN is boring and repetitive? These days it encompasses so many different programmes on so many different outlets aimed to so many different audiences, I don't see how it can all be dismissed like that

In terms of this forum I expect most see CiN to be the Friday night show, so It's probably just that bit that is being dismissed by the member.

I think it's crap and I still donate, my parents do the same and there think meh to most of the stuff. If people on here wish to believe the public are or classed as stupid then that your misdemeanor, that all fine.

I'm fully aware a good amount of the british Public fully understand why their donating and where it's going. You dont have to be stupid to donate money for an extremely good cause while fully knowing the output is not have highest standing and repetitive.

It the ratings continue to head in a downward spiral then that prove the point,

I don't think anyone here is slagging off those who work on the show and genuinely put effort in for the event - but supplying them with a promo for your Christmas episode is not putting effort in.

Oh, really?

I stand by my comments, it's just dire, boring and very very repetitive which makes the X factor envies. The people who produce it, know this, there get the money either way.

As for a promo "not putting effort in", that is a ridiculous suggestion. If nothing else, there are presumably contractual hoops they have to jump through because they are presumably contracted for X numbers of showings and there are issues with repeat fees which will presumably have to be waived. Saying it takes "no effort" is woefully simplistic and shows complete ignorance of how these things work. Would love someone writing the concept off explains how it works. Do they stuff a tape in a Jiffy bag and send it to White City? Would love to know.

And even if it was just the case that they were to just supply a video, that in itself is a big deal. The first showing of a clip of the Doctor Who special IS big news, people want to see it, and by giving it to Children in Need they provide a hook for the appeal and get people watching it who otherwise wouldn't and who will then donate. The fact is, they can keep these things to themselves and promote the show alone and monetarise it, and they don't, they donate it to Children in Need for no fee.

They're certainly making "more effort" than people sitting there going "urgh, this is boring" and not making any kind of constructive contribution, or presumably any kind of finanical contribution. The whole point of Children in Need is to get people to join in so if you've got a better idea about how they can raise money, why don't you go ahead and suggest it?

That is shockley poor way to get money, "Hey peeps give us some money for this cause and were give you sneak peek at something".

At least I know i'm doing for good cause and nothing Else, I dont expect anything in return unlike other people.

If i was the producer of CiN this is what i would do

5:15pm - Pointless Celebrity Special
6:00pm - News
6:55pm - Children In Need Launch Show
7:00pm - The One Show
7:30pm - EastEnders Fame Academy (I think thats a good idea and since all the old shows are coming back)
8:00pm - Sounds Like Friday Night - Children In Need Special (Like a normal episode but with no co host and it has the children in need single)
8:30pm - Blue Peter does Strictly Come Dancing
9:00pm - EastEnders Does Fame Academy - The Results
10:00pm - News
10:30pm - Weakest Link
11:15pm - The Graham Norton show
00:15am - DIY SOS CiN Special
01:15am - CIN Rocks The 80s
02:55am - Children In Need Update

I would also have A film of where the money goes and local outputs every hours as well.

This is just my idea

Children in Need used to be much better in the late 80s into the late 90s. The whole night now seems to be dwarfed each year by either Comic Relief on the odd years and Sport Relief on the even years.

I remember the time when the local opt outs was much more present. In Northern Ireland for example, there was a time when they would show the first 15 minutes from London, then at 7.15pm until around 1.00am they would all be Belfast centred and they would dip in and out of the network show, sometimes not showing routines and sketches from London, or showing them later on in the night rather than live from London.

In 2017, Children in Need seems to be second fiddle to Comic/Sport Relief, which trounces them in donations each year. Why? I don't know, does Comic/Sport Relief have better presentation and ideas? Last year £46 million was raised on the night, which is fantastic, however Sport Relief in 2016 raised £55.4 million.

Will the show be coming from Studio 1 again now that TVC is back open or will they be using Studio D at Elstree again? I do find it funny how Strictly still moves up to Blackpool for CIN week even though there hasn't been a studio conflict for years!

According to the BBC tickets website, they will not be returning to Television Centre but will remain in BBC Elstree Studio D. The main reason is that The Jonathan Ross Show is filming its final episode of its series in TC1 on Wednesday 15th November and there is no way they would be able to construct the Children in Need set in the space of 24 hours and have time for rehearsals etc, so they are staying put in BBC Elstree Studio D for 2017.

Strictly moving to Blackpool mid-series is now the norm and has nothing to do with Children in Need as Strictly since 2013 comes from the George Lucas Stage in Elstree.

Isn't Elstree D bigger than TC1 when its audience seating is in use?

I believe so (though whether it's actually that significant a difference is another matter) - mainly because TC1s audience is in usable floor space, whereas Elstree D's audience is annexed. TC1 is the more flexible studio and more suitable for a quick set/strike than Elstree D.

I do hope people haven't misunderstood. I have no gripes with Fundraiser/people who raise the money/people who give money (who all do wonderful jobs), but with the current formulaic way the actual content is pushed out.

And I seem to remember a lot of people in the nations complaining about that sort of thing happening as they missed out. They wanted to see Terry and Sue/Gabby and the stars in London not people in Belfast or Glasgow trying to ape them

The local bits were always the worst parts of CiN, a total change of gear going from Terry and showbiz in London to a few school kids cheering a a regional presenter looking awkward in a leisure centre. I think they even got rid of them totally at one point before bringing them back in the massively reduced form they are now.

I'm not a big fan of the Friday night CiN show but it's massively more slick and watchable than if was in the 80s and 90s. It can't be as it used to be, things have moved on
