Cin is just dire now adays its like there dont every try and there know there dont have to try, its like the here some crap and the public are like here the money...
What a lovely comment. I'm sure everyone giving their time and services for free, especially those spending a week travelling around in all weathers for the Rickshaw Challenge, will be delighted to know they're "not even trying".
If you'd like to do your own charity event, you can decide what goes in it.

I stand by my comments, it's just dire, boring and very very repetitive which makes the X factor envies. The people who produce it, know this, there get the money either way. You could put up a plate of spam for 25mins and people would still donate to CIN..

I find the dismissive attitude towards "the public" pretty unpleasant here, I'm afraid, suggesting they'll watch any old crap and donate seems to be saying they are stupid.
What if they did change it? Would you donate any more money to the cause if it was "better"? They're doing this to make money, not to please a bunch of people on the internet who think it's "boring".

The whole of CiN is boring and repetitive? These days it encompasses so many different programmes on so many different outlets aimed to so many different audiences, I don't see how it can all be dismissed like that

Bringing back The Weakest Link is something new. Well The Weakest Link is old but the idea of bringing back a gameshow after 5 years off air is new.
Maybe depending on how well received this becomes the BBC should look at bring back old shows for Children in Need specials in future years if they're struggling to bring in new content for the show.
I'm quite fed up of seeing EastEnders excerpts in the show just because they're both within Elstree. They do need to try to come up with new ideas and not recycle the old ones to death.
The first year (or perhaps second) they moved to Elstree they did use the EastEnders set rather effectively for musical performances and the Vic for interviews with Shane Richie which worked quite well.
Is it since the closure of TV Centre that the newsreaders haven't been involved every year - I think the last thing they did was a Strictly special about 5-6 years ago when they used to be an annual fixture.
I think the big issue is the show needs a hook - and Terry used to be that hook, for better or worse. I don't think anyone here is slagging off those who work on the show and genuinely put effort in for the event - but supplying them with a promo for your Christmas episode is not putting effort in.

You will remember that in the old days, the 90s, there used to be new ideas every year, different things, and they'd come up with new challenges and the like, so don't talk as if doing exactly the same thing year after year is the only way. It doesn't have to be a rickshaw every year!
The Highlights being an advert for a Christmas special is particularly shoddy, the makers of that programme have literally done nothing for the charity, even less than when a music act appears and performs their new single which just happens to be out this week which sometimes gets criticised.
The fact the ratings go down every year but the money raised goes up suggests to me that the actual telethon is becoming less and less relevant.

That's because it's not all about the big Friday evening show any more. It's not really a 'telethon' any more, it just ties together the various fundraisers. A large proportion of the money seems to come from the likes of Sainsbury's, Boots etc selling items rather than direct donations
Children in Need has programming in the weeks leading up to the Friday, on almost every BBC service
