The second half of the night was most probably the more entertaining with Matt Edmondson holding it all together IMO.

I don't think he was even mentioned in the pre-publicity. Agree Adi and Tess were not a great choice to start the night and although Tess is now CiNs longest running host its always a brief stint before shes off to Blackpool. Considering Greg James hosted last year and now has a live Friday night BBC1 show he'd have probably been a wiser choice to accompany Tess.

Maybe they realised late on that Marvin and Rochelle presenting the full two hour after the news show needed someone else.

I find it quite odd that about half the presenters are just drafted in to present Children in Need and then don't appear on the BBC at any other time. It should really be hosted by faces of the corporation.

I don't think Matt Edmondson himself has appeared on BBC One since he did CBBC a decade ago, so was a random choice.

Weakest Link had an unusually weak line up considering it was on the BBC for Children in Need. Strictly though had an unusually strong line up with many of the hosts that everyone remembers (and aren't too old)

It was notable in the bit about Chris Evans’ charity auctions that Evans did not appear in vision, whilst there were shots of the control room and phone team.

Which begs the question... has Evans appeared on any telly at all since the final Top Gear that he did in 2016? I don’t think he’s presented any telly since then, but has he gone into exile completely, refusing to appear on camera at all?! (Much like Steve Wright, I believe)

Chris Evans has historically not been part of the Friday Children in Need shows to any significant degree. He didn't ever present the One Show pre-shows when he was the regular Friday One Show presenter ISTR.

Indeed - he does his auctions from Monday to Thursday and then has the Friday off from the radio show, too.

But I thought it was interesting that they didn’t film him presenting on the radio for the film on how much his auctions raised - they instead threw up an old publicity still.

I suspect he hasn’t appeared on camera at all since Top Gear 2016, which is quite interesting considering he held a number of tv presenting gigs pre-Top Gear. To go from that to refusing to appear on camera (only my speculation, you understand) is quite a leap!

I gave up listening to his radio show about 18 months ago. The 'me..me..me' just got too much.
Quite a few others I know have given up in the last year or two too, for the same reason.
What are the figures for his show these days ?

Ken Bruce is the only programme I listen to on R2 now, (but none of his sit-ins )

Although he is the man behind mega hit Partners in Rhyme.

9.5m, half a million down on the previous year.

I think if The Weakest Link does come back permanently then I hope they'll get it back to the 9 person format.

I wasn't expecting it to be like the good old days, but it was definitely good to see it back.

I thought it was awesome - Anne was acid tongued as ever - sour and dour as she always was!! I thought it was good that it was pretty basically the same as it was, apart from 2 fewer contestants. You don't want her to be mellower, or even someone else present the show (as has been rumoured earlier this year) as it wouldn't be the same.

Was pleased to see the set was similar (think I read somewhere the one used on the show was imported from France) to the original and I was delighted to hear they were able to use the original titles and graphics (or a faithful creation of them anyway) and the music beds. Stings were a bit off from what I remember originally but aside from that it was quite good I thought. Quiz shows went off down the atmospheric music beds on the back of the success of Millionaire and I've always loved the Link's music beds.

Watching the concert, I kind of which this replaced the telethon. Much, much more entertaining. Even if I did die a little inside watching schoolchildren try to work out what a VHS tape is.

If you want to feel really old, you'll love the "Kids React To Technology" series on YouTube Wink

Well I thought the whole thing was pretty good this year. The pre-news bit was in many ways old school CIN - a big link up across the regions for the choir, regional opts, climax of the rickshaw thing etc. A long way from the pop act after pop act format that we had around 15 years or so ago (although that probably also has something to do with the way the music industry has changed too). I nearly had a double take when they started going through the audience to talk to people who've raised money, as I don't think they've done that much at all in recent years, but of course it was a set up to the Car Share sketch.

I used to be cynical about the quality of the TV show element of CIN but while at uni I ended up being roped into organising a couple of student fundraisers for CIN, which ended up being a good laugh. I remember staggering in about 1am and watching the highlights reel at the end of the show and seeing it in an entirely different light: just good natured fun that raised a lot of money, so why over-think it. Having had a daughter this year you end up seeing it all from another new angle too.

Well done to all involved - £50m is incredible.

These things are generally best watched drunk. Very Happy

To be fair, that applies to an increasing amount of programming.

Apart from a review of the Rickshaw challenge that ended at the GLasgow studios, everything else is pretty much new content. I bet there could have put out the River Squad on the main night...
