Maybe they could make it more entertaining
and
raise more money. But imagine if they changed things up and it happened to be the year they didn't make more money than the previous year. The
Daily Mail
would be (even more) apoplectic.

Tangentially related to this, but more radio than TV:
BBC Western House, located next to New Broadcasting House in central London, will now be known as BBC Wogan House.

What a great thing to do. They did the same thing for John Peel, renaming Egton Wing (not to be confused with the previous Egton House) as Peel Wing.

Because he's doing The X Factor which he wasn't last year.
Oh dear. It would have been nice to keep Graham for the whole event to see how good he would do. I can't recall why Dermot hasn't returned this year.

A really nice touch - highlights the huge impact he had on not only Radio 2 but the entire medium of broadcasting.

Dermot wasn't doing X Factor last year, so was available, and not tied to ITV significantly. This year is different.
I think it's less the fact that he's tied to ITV (other ITV names have hosted in the past and he works for the BBC too) - it's more to do with the fact that Friday is taken up with rehearsals for X Factor.

Would you donate a pound more to the cause if the show was more to your liking?
How many donate on the night because of the exciting viewing, and how many donate because it's non uniform day at school, or they were shaking a bucket in Greggs?
The notable thing to me compared to 10/15 years ago is how little goes on in the studio that isn't a musical performance.
The rest of the show is just standing on the stage linking to clips and reading out the phone number.
It's a side effect of the fact that light entertainment on the BBC consists of little besides Strictly, and comedy is practically non existent.

No it hasn't, there not going to change it now BECAUSE it still get lots of money, your looking at it backwards. The local opt out especial from Scotland has got worse, ( there could never find a happy middle ground)
