why not "when it was" then?
_______

During the Opening sequence, it showed some people at an ice rink, was this BBC Birmingham's opt (I say Birmingham, routed via Birmingham, originating in Coventry).

Just a figure of speech.

You'll notice that Glasgow stays on screen for a while too.

Well tonight's telethon flew by and it's all over... with a very substandard total of only just £18 million. That's the lowest total since around 2005 and the recession is very much over... no matter how many times they mentioned that we're still in tough times.. which admittedly I guess we are.

I enjoyed East Street... and Take That... but that's all that really stood out for me. The new set was impressive and I liked the updated original 80's music going beyond the return to the 90's theme as they did in 2008 & 9.

Overall it was meh.. Nothing much more to say really. It's like they almost can't be bothered anymore. They go all out on 7-10 then after the news is just utter tripe. They need a total revamp if they want the public to actually watch for entertainment and donate. I'm more gutted I missed tonight's I'm A Celeb if I'm honest!

Since when has anything been serious on CiN? Apart from the fundraising.

Well at least CiN is better than the garbage we had to endure for RND last year.

CiN is utter Garbage aswell, its just full of pop acts and crap.... its just a really lazy and cheap with of getting money, there no effect now adays Mad

There used to be much more variety on CiN - Cirque du Soleil, quick-change artists and so on. Then a focus group probably told them that viewers "really respond" to musical acts, and thanks to them we are now seemingly stuck in a recurring Groundhog Day-style loop where this predictable wall-to-wall schedule of monotonous pop is rehashed every year. Hopefully tonight's woefully low total might prompt the BBC to make more of an effort next year...

Only area which even makes a bit of effort is Glasgow.and it tends to be shoddy fun filled Wink even cringe worthy but I appuled them for at least trying, alas its like 2 mins of record song from london with each song and then cut back to glagow.

Really? I thought that all nations were taking the live network show with the same opt times as the English regions this year.

Glasgow still likes to move things about.... it gives them that extra 10 - 15mins..

I remember when the regional opts used to be later until around midnight.

(Coupled with the local radio as well!)

How come this no longer happens? Cutbacks? That some BBC regions have moved facillity over the years which prevents late operating for mass public events? Eg BBC Birmingham moving from Pebble Mill (where they could control their own security up to a point) to the Mailbox (where they have to work with their security staff, plus the CIN opt comes from outside the BBC)?

I remember some local radio stations listing an overnight CIN programme Friday into Saturday. WM didn't take it, but Shropshire did. What was that about?

9.10m for Children In Need last night between 7-10pm. Lowest rating since 2006 but higher than everything on ITV that night.

Ignoring that contradiction at the end there....

Last year raised £20m by the end of the night, but donations come in for a while after, so hopefully the total will be much higher.

I can't help but think last nights show was a little flat. The first hour seemed to drag, there wasn't much entertainment besides Cheryl's performance in that time. At around 9pm it started to pick up, but I didn't really feel the usual atmosphere? I can't put my finger on it...
