And the winner is, Andi, with 30 points. Well done her. At least this CIN special of Mastermind was better than the mickey-taking RND 2009 special of Mastermind. in which the contestants got pathetic scores.
The set is very nice, but it's amazing how small TC1 looks on screen sometimes (I know there are larger studios in London, but honestly it is a big space!) I can't help but feel that it could do with a steadicam. The handheld walk-up-the-steps during Take That really showed up as rather wobbly. Compare TT on X-Factor last week to the same song done on CiN this year. Despite being in the showcase studio at Television Centre, X-Factor had a great deal more scale and presence than the same song done on the BBC.
I thought Glasgow's contribution at 2130ish was pretty good. Is that the Scottish Exhibition and Convention Centre?
The problem with Studio 1 is that if you have a big set you have a smaller audience, and if you have a large audience you get a small set. It always looks cramped and it makes me wish that they made this studio before Bill Cotton left.
Ahh - no that would have been Studio 9. The 'Stage' at Television Centre refers not to the stage in theatrical or film terms, but simply the stages in which the centre was built. In other words Stages 1-3 were the Scenery buildings, and the main ring, including studios 1-7, Stage 4 included Studio 8. Stage 5 was the 'Spur' incorporating the Post Production and original News centre. Stage 6 was planned to be a replacement for the Television Theatre (Studio 9) complete with fly tower, proper auditorium and so-on. In the end, Stage 6 was built, but as the current News Centre including Studios N6 and N8.
Incidentally, Studio 9 eventually was built as replacement for Pres-A, next to the Blue Peter Garden.

Yes you're right. It's Studio 9. But it's a shame we never got this glorious Studio 9 as envisioned and instead got that small studio that was sometimes used for CBBC. It still would have only seated 400 and there is a certain energy you have when you have a larger studio audience. That's why the atmosphere is Studio 1 at The London Studios aka the old LWT building is so electric.
That has to go down as one of the all time great comedic comments, thanks to Clare first of all and then DVB Cornwall for making me aware of this classic tweet.
