That said, if he's dropped from say next years show no doubt we'll all moan and want him back. Wink

Well it depends who they got to replace him. Him and Fearne obviously don't work well together at all

The only double act who can handle live TV seemlessly who I could think of hosting the show are handcuffed to the other side

I also wonder, is the rough and ready presentation just the perils of live broadcasting, or the production team not having enough rehersals

Well it is 7 hours of live TV. I would love to see that 'other side' doing this seamusly.

It really isn't up to scratch this year, is it? To be honest, I think it has gone downhill since Gaby Roslin left. She and Terry worked well together and since Fearne (and briefly Natasha Kaplinsky) took over, things have seemed a bit awkward. I, too, think Terry's a brilliant broadcaster but it seems as though it is too much for him this year. I find the BBC's decision-making process hard to accept. On the one hand, you've got Moira Stuart (58 ) and Anna Ford (64) being forced into retirement because they are deemed to old to read the news (which is far less physically challenging than a live entertainment telethon) yet on the other you've got 69-year-old Terry presenting a highly stressful telethon which really does need a youthful, energetic presenter. What is the BBC playing at?

In some ways it's been Granddaughter (Fearne) keeping Grandad (Terry) company all evening to be honest.

Opts in Yorks and Lincs were all from Lincoln, most of them live - half on the ground and half on the wheel. 11.30 was pre-rec and featured all Hull-based fundraising.

Yet you all seem to keep watching for 7 hours Razz Imagine if it was a good show - you'd be totally hooked!

I assume the Spice Girls thing "live from LA" was recorded the other night around Dancing with the Stars.

Same old, same old though. Pop star plugging single/album followed by soap star pretending to be pop star. Repeat for seven hours. Done!

Also very annoying today that press coverage has centred around Terry waiving his £10,000 fee - a fee most viewers had assumed he'd been waiving for the last 25 years!

Spice Girls was live or close-to-live from the CBS studios where the BBC make Dancing with the Stars for ABC. (Confused?!)

Strictly is coming from TC4 I think this time (so won't be in HD?) as Goldenballs is in TC8 (the other HD studio other than TC1)

It is amazing how they've managed to make the UKs second largest TV studio look so small...

I thought it was third behind The London Studios - studio 1, which is second behind The Fountain Studios.

They had a wide shot from a camera above and behind the stage, which shownt how big the stage is, I think that could be the problem.

No - TLS Studio 1 is smaller than TC1. Fountain's two studios with the door between them open forming one studio is larger. (Not sure if Maidstone's tin shed is now also larger than TC1 - but it only just qualifies as a studio - it has a pants lighting grid and they had to put turf on the roof to try after they discovered they couldn't hear themselves think when it rained...)

I love the way they now leave the phone number aston poised on-screen for all the people to ring who are just coming in from the pub and clubs etc.

How'd you find that out? Laughing It is bigger than TC1 apparently, they kept boasting about it being the biggest studio space in the country. Not sure thats the case though.

I've hardly seen any of it these last few years, save for the Doctor Who specials, but it sounds so dire this year. What happened to the days when it wasn't just musical act/musical act/musical act? You had all the gimmicks in the mid 90s like 3D and 'Smellovision' which actually encouraged people to watch. Now it's a bit like a dinosaur, and one of the few amusing moments this decade was Tim Vine getting cut off after making jokes about hijacked planes in 2001 (two months after 9/11) in front of a stunned Gaby Roslin.

I suppose they can't complain as it's still getting money and it's still increasing every yeah, but...I dunno, maybe it's that I'm getting older, but it doesn't seem as fun and exciting anymore. We've gone from a special edition of Noel's House Party to a bunch of bored radio DJs 'playing' Never Mind the Buzzcocks to a dead audience with a sarcastic Chris Moyles.
