They are live - it's just that the South's is actually indoors, where it appears that it was filmed outdoors earlier.
I must say that during the EastEnders piece I expected Barbara Windsor to come in and shriek, 'Oi! You hippies! Get outta my pub!'

It does make you wonder how much of the Regional opt-outs are live anyway.

You're right. It's a very cost effective form of advertising for these corporations. What's worse is that often it's the company's customers who've raised the money by buying special products where X amount from every purchase goes to charity. Like for example the Persil and Walkers Crisps tie-ins with Comic Relief - the increase in sales more than pays for the donation. So the company enjoys boosted profits, AND gets some free advertising on the BBC.
I'm fondly reminded of Alan Partridge on Comic Relief about 12 years ago, when the local tyre exhaust and clutch centre hands over a huge cheque for £50 and Alan is so insulted by their cynical ploy that he destroys the cheque and 'disses' the company live on air to counteract the benefit they've had from the free advertising.

Is it just me or are most of the cheque presentation handovers tonight, and in the past few years, nothing more than opportunities for free adverts for the companies and corporations involved (or, from a cynical perspective - trying to convince us all that they are ethical, good-standing businesses?)
Nice one with Royal Mail just now.
