All Stars 3, which was Chi Chi's second appearance on RuPaul's Drag Race, was aired on Comedy Central in the UK. Season 8, her first appearance, is on Netflix.

BBC News have an article on her death and when I saw it this morning, it was the second most popular article on the site at the time.

I don't mean to sound disrespectful here - but the mind boggles...

Chi Chi’s death was also carried throughout the day on BBC World News / News Channel.

Fair enough, but I don't mean to be disrespectful in return, but just because you haven't heard of someone doesn't mean others haven't. The world doesn't revolve around you.

The fact that it was the second most read article at the time and her death got mentioned on the BBC News channel (and other media outlets in the UK and in Ireland) shows that a lot of people did know who she was and her death was noteworthy enough to report.

I hadn't heard of her either until her death was announced. My earlier comment was prompted by the fact that she passed away at such a young age.

The thing about this forum is that it covers so many areas of the industry and attracts the interest of so many people. DE88's comment about his mind boggling illustrates that it doesn't just stick to the business and politics but also extends to people.

I *know* that the world doesn't revolve around me, or indeed anyone (not even a certain Donald T). And I can only apologise for giving the impression with my "mind boggles" remark that I wanted the world to revolve around me.

But is it *really* as if I wasn't entitled to make this remark? I *was* genuinely astounded that an article on the BBC News site about the death of a young American drag queen who - trying to be fair without intending to be disrespectful - quite likely *wouldn't* be as well-known on this side of the Atlantic, and who - again, trying to be fair without intending to be disrespectful - quite likely *wouldn't* appeal to everyone (just as it's quite likely that Drag Race doesn't appeal to everyone), would be popular enough to become the second most-read article on the site at one point.

Just as I was astounded during the 2018 series of Love Island that the Beeb had so many articles about it, including a very detailed one about the final:

https://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-44943562

(I'm only 32 - younger, in fact, than Chi Chi was - and there *are* some reality shows I do like, on both sides of the Atlantic. And I have absolutely nothing against drag queens - indeed, I'm not ashamed to admit that if someone suggested to me that I dress up as a woman and it was genuinely worth doing so, I'd happily say yes. So you can't *quite* say I'm a fuddy-duddy. Wink )

Obviously, both Love Island 2018 and Chi Chi's passing *were* at least reasonably noteworthy, and the Beeb *were* well within their rights to report on them - and within their rights, too, to have them as Entertainment & Arts articles, even though the people in Newsbeat's target audience were likely to be the ones most interested in them. But the fact that they reported on LI '18 to *that* extent, and the fact that enough people read the Chi Chi article for it to be the second most-read article on the site at one point - more popular than things like the A-level fiasco or the unrest in Belarus - genuinely did astound me. And, truth be told, I'd be surprised if I was the only one here.

I do accept, however, that not everyone was astounded, and indeed some people weren't the least bit surprised. Or, to put it another way - once again, no disrespect intended - their minds *weren't* boggled. Wink

Once again, I can only apologise for causing annoyance with my remark.

It's OK, don't worry about it. I apologise also for quickly snapping back in reaction.

Let's just leave it and move on. Smile
