I heard a rumour he's also going to do a News type based version of Screenwipe at some point as well.
Yeah, I read in Broadcast a pilot was recorded during the Summer and a full series has been commissioned for 2009. 'Newswipe' will cover current affairs.

I suppose that kind of mirrors his work for the Guardian, which started off with his weekly Screen Burn article covering TV and then led to his separate column covering news, events and life in general. You can read them here.
Incidentally, I notice that he's not written Screen Burn since September. Does anyone know if he's given up on it, or if he's just given it a rest whilst he's been working on Dead Set and Screenwipe?
I reckon the previous Screenwipe series episodes on news and credit squeezing (respectively) were especially great in their own ways, but that's not to say anything else was poor- it's all thoroughly enjoyable stuff, without a doubt.
Especially was suprised at how, when said credit squeeze episode was later broadcast on BBC Two, the 'fake ending' joke and use of the ECP in links were modified to match the channel's actual branding, albeit with the use of more colours. I had only expected a straight repeat!
It's always been one of BBC Four's best shows IMHO - I'm looking forward to its return next week.
Screenwipe is one of my favourite shows, it's absolutely hilarious and genius at the same time - and does a great job of taking on the TV industry itself with Brooker's cynical approach. Last series was great - the credit squeeze, news special and The Unloser.
Glad it's back, and glad he's doing Newswipe too. Is it BBC Four as well for that?

If only someone could do something similar for the video game industry!

I find this show mildly engaging..not quite on the same level as Mr Brooker but they seem to know what they're talking about (this from someone who knows nothing about games). It's a bit more straight than he is though..but it's Charlie Brooker's personality that makes Screenwipe IMO.
