Channel TV - New Idents

Just noticed that Channel TV yesterday launched revised versions of their ident in the new ITV style.

So far, both are of CI locations with the ITV Channel Ident overlayed.

Whilst not the most exciting of idents, it is really good to see that Channel still have gone to the trouble of producing regional versions of the ITV scheme.

It is desperate that ITV plc cannot do the same for their own regions, nor do they even have the concern or aparent ability to even bother with an ident into one of the few remaining regional programmes. How much of a problem would it be to provide the regions with news titles that include a pre-voiced ident, instead of always crashing from adverts into the programme?

See the idents at www.channelonline.tv/news/channelreport/

Tuesday and Wednesday's editions are preceded with the idents, although currently they are yet to receive a VO.

In this day and age, it is great to see Channel are making an effort to keep its regional identity, it's a shame it can't be said about the rest of ITV

Very interesting. Monday 13/2 has the old break-bumper style ident. Tuesday has what looks like the old regional Channel ident with an arty letterbox effect, but without any text or branding. And by Wedneday they had managed to put the ITV 1 logo and Channel on them, still with the letterbox effect. (I can't tell from the clip whether they managed to get the ITV1 logo to zoom away and open up, as it does at the start of the national idents.)

Good on Channel - AFAIK none of the ITV plc regions are using idents before their news magazine programmes Sad

Yep, I heard somewhere it was because the London announcers got the news presenter's names wrong so they ditched it, I think.

That is true, many a time the announcer would tell us that Granada Reports is following albeit presented by the people who do Calendar. Even people on this forum could do better. Laughing

Channel simply used five different idents with a similar VO.

Presenters names were never mentioned, just something simple such as "With the news, sport and the weather for the islands, we join the team at Channel Report"

Not rocket science to produce locally branded idents, with a couple of simple voice-overs. The regional centre then simply uses one as the start of the TX.

Name errors may have happened, but it seems such an easy thing to produce "generic" regional idents for programmes that are fixed in the schedule.

Ideally, one version could make mention of the name of the regional opt's later that evening, where applicable.

I think they should do what Channel are doing and have a regional ident before regional news.

Another question...

How do Channel deal with Puffin's Pla(i)ce now it follows on from the local news at c.1310?

They go from Channel News to a trailer then straight into Puffin's Pla(i)ce who then in turn hand over to the weather.

That reminds me our friends at Puffin's Pla(i)ce mentioned TV Forum last week. Wink

I don't understand why an ident can't be played out locally in the same way as BBC regions do before their local news. IIRC Border used to do this until the generic look ITV news was introduced.

As for Channel - nice way of adding a little regional variation to the network idents. It looks a lot better IMO than the way UTV have done it.
