And let's not forget the Nitty and Gritty Club on Border which replaced Border Birthdays.

What was the name of that owl puppet on HTV West in the 1970s?

According the the floorplan of their Jersey base, there is a separate small studio for Oscar. The large(r) main studio is separate.

As to it's location, it's in between master control and the archive, and across the corridor from 'Creative Channel'. No toilets anywhere near it Wink

Isn't this also the continuity studio for v/o announcements? (Not that it is used for this very much any more!)

IVC all afternoon? My region (YTV) never ditched it - because they never used it in the first place! Pity that all of ITV no longer uses it now.
YTV DID have IVC when they launched (using a very nifty projected backdrop which featured the diamond pattern from the original ident - looked very effective), they dropped it when they moved to colour.
Hey! Strange how some websites have always said that there never was any IVC, when they simply didn't have any footage of it - where did you see the footage?

I don't know that any actual footage survives, but someone (can't remember who - but probably Transdiffusion) has a screenshot of Redvers Kyle doing an early YTV in vision link (and yes it definately is from YTV and not from Rediffusion).

Peter Lewis (of LWT fame) was one of YTV's early in-vis announcers along with Redvers Kyle.

I've just had a look, good job you only thought it was transdiffusion, as I can't find it. Check your history folder. If you saw it recently, the page may be listed there.

The owl was called Oscar, the programme was called Ask Oscar and was hosted by Dame Annie St-John. (RIP)!

Talking of Redvers Kyle, which we were, the ORIGINAL owl was Ollie Beak on Associated Rediffusion's Five O'clock Club.

Also with Ollie and Redvers were Peter Ling, who went on to write Crossroads; and Muriel Young, who went on to do just about everything in the trade.

Five O'Clock Club was SUPPOSED to rival Blue Peter, but never quite managed it.

Unlike Magpie, which ran for several years before it was axed in the 1970s.
