Shouldn't this be in the existing Neighbours thread instead of a new one?

Possibly. Although I for one feel a new thread was justified, as I would never have gone
near the existing Neighbours thread. This is of interest to those who have grown up
with Neighbours, but don't follow current storylines.

The main Neighbours 2010 thread isn't only for discussing Neighbours storylines. The first subject mentioned in that
thread was about the unofficial Neighbours fansite PerfectBlend.net being phased out. The news about Neighbours
being moved to a news channel didn't need a new thread. This thread needs to be merged with the main one.

No it doesn't - this is news bigger than a post in a generic thread. It's long overdue the axe and with it's ratings on Five they're not going to be fighting to ensure it survives.

yes and the petty sods at channel seven scrapped all the sets so channel ten had to build new ones which really cacked up the continuity Rolling Eyes

lets hope this time they will be more adult about it

Its a perfectly adult decision not to gift expensive properties to your competitor. To do anything other than that would be foolish. Besides, the sets the rebuilt were much better - the original was drab and dark.

Besides, 11 is owned by 10 - it's a digital sister channel; so I'd expect nothing to change.

Exactly. This is just like a Channel 4 show moving to E4 or and ITV1 show moving to ITV2.

I wonder tho whether this is the beginning of the end for Neighbours. Its been on air 25 years which is far longer than your average Aussie soap.

Aussie drama is pretty strong at the moment - mainly thanks to the imposed quotas on local content. Certainly looks in a far healthier state than UK drama at the minute with fairly big shows on all channels.

All this talk of it being the equivalent of Channel 4 moving Hollyoaks to E4 has got me thinking - if Brookside had lasted just a few more years, would Channel 4 have moved it sideways to More4?

I know they had E4 back then (which actually covered a lot of ground More4 and 4Music do now) but it was a far less prominent channel back then.

I doubt More4 could have afforded Brookside - it was a pretty major C4 commission.

I believe Grundys/Ten are contracted with Five to produce the show until 2015, so it probably won't be going anywhere yet - although I doubt it will last much longer than that to be honest. That said, five years is a long time and if it's a mild ratings success on Eleven, you never know.

Wasn't it subsidised for years by the BBC paying well over the odds for it?

I don't know about "well over the odds", but their payment entitled them to have a say about storylines (content and scheduling) which they felt worked well for the UK audience.

Not sure if Five ever had any such input.

Five has even more input, to the point that Neighbours counts as part of its UK produced programming.

I just think when you look back on some of the storylines on youtube it is not the same anymore and I really do think it is since Susan Bower has been put in place that it has got even worse, they should give it one more revamp and sack Susan this time, I always liked the music they had to fit in with the scence I know it was a bit cheesey but that is Neighbours.

Im surpirsed you people know about this change. Channel 11 is coming to our screens in early 2011. How ironic, it will be the second last "Third" network channel, as GEM is being released on 26th Sept (owned by Nine Network), and 7mate on the 25th Sept (Seven Network)
