When the TSW franchise first took over from Westward, Channel did continue to work from a dirty TSW feed at first, and only switched to TVS in the mid-80's due to TSW's early reputation for regularly throwing the network schedule out of the window in order to run to it's own agenda - which was no good for Channel who needed a station who would be more faithful to the network schedule hence the move to TVS.
Rather ironically, once the switchover happened, TSW had stopped bothering to pretend that they were anything other than Westward trading under a different name and so by then Channel probably would have beeen quite content to continue to work from a dirty TSW feed. If Channel had stuck TSW out a bit longer, one can only assume that they would have gone on to take a dirty Westcountry/Carlton feed aswell.

AIUI Channel used to rebroadcast an analogue off-air feed of Westward, which switched to TVS when the franchises changed hands (TVS presentation overnight which wasn't blanketed by Channel included - Not In The Channel Islands text on trails for TVS stuff not shown by Channel) and then Meridian.

AIUI the move had more to do with the far better national advertising climate of the TVS region, that Channel could 'bolt' themselves on to, coupled with an improved quality link that the IBA provided by a SABRE at Cherbourg looking at Rowridge, rather than the Stockland Hill-Alderney link.

It's just that you answered right in the middle of the other replies to my specific question enquiring what the terrestrial analogue transmitters on the islands were putting out.
And widescreen is now very common on analogue. Both the BBC and Channel 4 now transmit the majority of their films in 16:9 on the analogue network.

How do BBC 1 and 2 analogue look in the Channel Islands ? As AFDs probably can't be used on Astra 28.2 how does the ARC after the D-Sat receiver at Fremont deal with BBC Sports ? 14:9 letterbox (which is what I'd expect) or 4:3 CCO which would match analogue on the mainland ? If the latter, I wonder how ?

Yeah widescreen Analogue is common, but it doesn't exist in the Channel Islands.

I hope you're luckier than I at getting that question answered, Mark. <grin>
That's what I've been asking, with little success, since a third of the way down page one!

14:9 Letterbox
or this

16:9 Letterbox

What I was trying to get over, but unfortuneatly Im not up on my tech jargon as some of you guys are, so guess I havent suceeded, is that, we have absolutely no Widescreen on Analogue.
So everything thats shown on BBC 1 & 2, ITV, or CH4 that is widescreen comes out looking like a little box in the middle of the screen (if the TV is set to 4:3) Called Centre Cut?
This is how it looks whether its Sports or Normal programming.
