That is a fair point actually, as Channel is the only company using the generic 'look' that is not owned by Carlton or Granada, so why would they want to cross-promote? None of the rest (SMG/UTV) are!
So I take it then that Channel will continue to be referred to as itv then? If it is to be permanent they really should look to cutting out the itv1 trailers (which is a bit inconsistent), although for such a small company that would be a large undertaking.
Did Channel cross-promote Channel 4 programmes, pre-1993? I notice they remove the GMTV trailers as well, hence the question...
We ought to start a 'Bring Back Gus Honeybun' thread.
For those FAR younger than me, he was a bunny rabbit, and Puffin's equivalent at Westward, and then TSW; but was axed (and presumably put in a stew) by Westcountry when they took over.
Nick Harvey.
I believe that TSW were so bitter that their franchise was not removed that they did not co-operate very much with Westcountry. This may have been a result of Westcountry not buying TSWs old studios (other ITV franchise winners - like Meridian in Southampton have often bought the facilities of the previous company)
I think that TSW did not want Gus to work for the upstart replacement, and so released him into the wild during his last birthday slot. (Incidentally presented by Real Room's Tris Payne and Sally Meen, who also used to do GMTV Weather)
Unfortunatley I didn't live in Jersey when Channel 4 was promoted although my girlfriend (proper Jersey girl) does re-call some Channel 4 promotion probably carried via TVS.
I think it would to time consuming for Channel to re-do the ITV1 promotional trailers but I wouldn't be surprised if they do re-name to ITV1 Channel Islands. The lunchtime news has started referring to itself as the Channel Islands News Team !.
Personally I don't mind it being ITV1 as long as Channel keep their idents and their local focus.
Well they could just shove a 1 onto the end of the itv logo on the itv generic ident... I don't think they'd have to do any more than that. It'll be interesting to see how Channel deals with itv1's new look in January anyway.
That of course depends on whether the other regions will get encrypted!

I get the general impression that ITV are not that bothered. 90% of the population won't even re-tune their digibox and most probably don't even know that you can !.
If Channel are getting a clean feed over fibre-optic, or some other means, then they'll have to change the way they operate almost completely.
As I understand it, they only run in their own ads during local programmes, and rely on Meridian's the rest of the time, certainly over night.
They're going to have to run something in to fill all the empty spaces in a clean feed, albeit unattended and automated over night.
I'll bet they start running promos and other stuff like 30 second shots of the islands; instead of the 'national' ads like Marks & sparks and Toys R Us that they're not being paid to show.

I wouldn`t be so sure about that. The DJ on my local radio breakfast show was going on about it the other day and people were ringing in asking how to recieve them. Apparently the details of how to tune them in were posted onto the stations website. Also people at my work were talking about it the other day, i`d say itv will put a stop to it before long, hope not though.
BTW can anyone tell me, prior to Meridian transmitting generic itv trailors when it made its own, what did Channel do. Did it make its own too????
