Although they must get quite monotonous after a while - s a m e voiceover time and time again! And it IS a Powerpoint presentation, isn't it?

It must be rather annoying for Channel to keep trying to beat the Meridian break bumpers - I bet Southampton love cutting into an ad break early just to spite them...

I love this Channel Television!

I don't think the presentation is that bad -- at least it is distinctive, they don't just blindly follow the programme-trailer-ads-trailer-ident-programme format that bores me so much.

And apart from the odd flash of the Meridian break bumper I haven't seen any particular evidence of the bad timing alluded to here.

I like it. Again it is slightly amateurish but like UTV it is different, friendly and not dull like just about all of the ITV stations on the ITV mainland!!!

I love the main Channel TV Ident - a globe with GIGANTIC Channel Island outlines!

The integration of the ITV hearts is quite sweet in a slightly regional kind of way.

After watching Channel Television for the past 6 hours, for the first time in my life, I am impressed in the community spirit the channel appears to bring about.

What other channel in the UK has the headline to their main news programme as a bike shop in danger of closing due to roadworks?

The adverts are a hark back 20 years to the old days of still slides and notorius voice overs. I take it Coca-Cola aren't too concerned about their market in the Channel Islands.

Overall, CTV are only part of ITV in name, however this prime example of regionalism is what we've seen on ITV a good 20 years ago. Some of us still wish it was that way.

TVArchive - I couldn't agree more.

It is fantastic that this service is aimed at 150,000 people. If you bear that in mind it is rather good!

It reminds me of the ITV of the late 70s and early 80s. I well remember the occasional Southern TV 'Day By Day' Dover opts - I think they were on Fridays! (Can you imagine a weekly(!) sub-opt!!!)

The adverts are just like the old still+voiceovers I remember so well!

Anyone else catch the announcements?

'ITV's News at Ten will be on at 4 and half minutes past 10 tonight, but first Cold Feet' and 'That's Channel Report at 11.26'

Love it!

Cheers, Asa

I really liked the way they signed off before the 12.35 Football programme, 'we come to and end for our participation for the night, so sleep well and goodnight' or words to that effect. Nice, friendly way to send everyone off to bed. The big corporations really could learn a thing or two from Channel, and I personally think their presentation, whilst a little bit ragged in places (though not nearly as bad as I thought it would be) is stacks better than Meridian's that they base theirs on.

BTW Channel do show separate trailers to Meridian -- I think the only commonality is the odd announcement from Southampton and an apparent arrangement to show some of Meridian's ads on Channel. They also have some quite slick transitions between trailers and idents and so on that are only achieveable by the human hand, no faceless server could ever achieve the feeling of live TV Channel manages!

If anyone can check out the start up at 09.25. Channel use the generic hearts idents but with their own music and no announcment.

After reading everyones comments about Channel I have come to the conclusion that they really are not that bad.

I like it, but the picture quality is rather poor. It looks like it might have been converted into NTSC, then back into PAL.

Does anyone know why we've got this 'trail' effect, and is it apparent on the main analouge feed?

Yes, Meridian ads are shown on CTV. They originally fed from TSW, but switched to TVS because CTV wanted to show Crossroads at 6.35, not 5.20 as TSW did - true! Sadly everyone now puts it up against Neighbours. Sad

Otherwise it's class. Carlton and GMG could do well to learn from everyone else (SMG, UTV and CTV)!

Few more questions:

Do CTV have night-time programming?
and
Is it actually the broadcast feed of Meridian that CTV spoon off (ie the CTV transmission suite pick up idents, V/O's and all from 'Ridi?)
and
Why the hell can't they just get a satellite link with LNN?

Yes James, Channel go through the night and have done since TVS started to.

They used to take TVS intact through the night, so I guess they now take Meridian.

When TVS did their own 'Late Night Late', before the network took over, the overnight (in-vision!) announcer always had to refer to 'Independent television for the south, the south-east and the Channel Islands' in links. A dreadful mouthful!

Nick Harvey.
