Region 12, 3-1, 'ITV Channel Is' is now broadcasting real Channel Television pictures.

The picture quality is not great - but it is nice to see they have finally made it!

Watching their Birthday slot - 'Puffins Pla(i)ce', after their 1505 local news, which wasn't local news at all, it was 'Daily Diary'... A regional what's on guide, island by island.

This really is local television - fantastic!

Local TV -- Not many ITV companies truly providing that service any more is there? UTV, Channel and maybe Border, and that's about it really...

After living with Channel for nearly 2 years now after Meridian I guess it is very local based and has a great feeling of being part of Channel Islands life but it is let down by poor presentation and the fact that it is simply broadcast on top of Meridian.

It would be interesting to know what other member think of Channel. The local news programme Channel Report is on at 18.00 and has recently had a face lift.

It's a pity of course that Channel had to get rid of their on-screen announcers. I'm sure it is easier to overlay a system like CHannel has with IVC, as slight timing problems are not as obvious (they can come off the Meridian feed for the announcement earlier rather than having to wait for their own ident etc).

Anyway it'll be interesting to see. TTTV had an overlay system in place for a few months with YTV in 1993 and that was a bit of a disaster to be honest. Looking forward to it Smile

Yes - Channel have always had to be experts in opting-out of other ITVs 'dirty' feeds, as they have never had a clean feed of network programmes. (Similar to the way the BBC Nations often work)

Originally they had to receive Westward off-air from Plymouth, and they still receive Westcountry as a backup, though now source most of their network from Meridian off-air.

Apparently there is a feed of open talkback from Meridian presentation to Channel TV, and Chanel can talk back to Meridian. (Means the Meridian pres directors have to be careful what they say - as Jersey are probably listening!)

Channel do have their own announcers usually only in the evenings. The other times they use Meridian or automatic. The Channel ident will appear with the annoucement: 'Channel Television your local ITV Station' or 'Channel Television in the Channel Islands' or 'Channel Television ITV for the Channel Islands'.

I guess it saves them money !

Sorry -- I meant in-vision annos which I understand are now gone Sad

They do still have their own announcers, but you don't see their faces anymore, which is a shame

Sorry mate I miss understood. The evening announcers do read the late news. The proper news team finish at 19.00 !.

Are they broadcasting in widescreen as I haven't seen it yet, at work until 19.00.

The local adverts in the middle of Channel Report are BRILLIANT! 4:3 full frame - often just stills and voice over - bit like a PowerPoint presentation.

It was like stepping back in time 20 years - I remember TVS used to carry similar local ads, and my local cinema...
