The opt out for the Channel Islands is not part of BBC South Today, it opts out from BBC Spotlight. The programme is actually called BBC Channel Islands News. For that reason it is likely that any changes at ITV 1 Channel Television will concern the ITV region nearest to the Channel Islands, and their news programme is The West Country Tonight, not Meridian Tonight.

My apologies. Not being from that area I don't fully know the geography of TV boundaries there.

Sad news in my opinion. It's a shame that the local branding will eventually end for the channel.

Inevitable really. For such a small region, Channel has quite a large amount of staff working on the local news side of things. I wonder how long itl'll be until they start making people redundant. Their studios and building are quite large too, one wonders if they'll downsize their Jersey operation.
Also, does it mention anywhere what is going to happen to 'Creative Channel', the production company that runs alongside Channel TV itself? I can't imagine ITV PLC taking that on and keeping it going.

If Channel was ultimately going to be an opt of The West Country Tonight (and we are speculating here - but hey that's what we like to do!) then how far north does the old HTV West region go? Sure they will be interested in what is going on in St Peter's Port?!
That said the same would be true for Hunstanton and Bradford for Calendar!

I was thinking about this, clearly its all about the compliance business (and I very much hope the rules get changed on that one now). I can't imagine ITV have much/any interest in the actual tv channel given the size of its audience as much as anything. Could ITV possibly get another company in to produce the local news like they do in the other non-ITV regions during daybreak?
Would seem like a cheaper option than investing in any infrastructure to tie it in with another ITV region etc.

This feels like being thrown back 10 years, plenty of "viewers won't notice... this will only strengthen our company... a stronger identity... viewers won't notice... ITV plc want strong regional programming everywhere... no cuts to regional news... viewers won't notice..." on Channel Report.
The presenters' demeanours tell a rather different story.
How long before they receive their introductory yellow and black paint pots for that set then?

They won't. How long before they get a parcel from Gas Street with the old Studio W set in it and instructions for the presenters on how to set it up correctly! How long until Channel Report becomes Meridian? with a 2 second opt at the start

Historically ITV in the Channel Islands was dependent on Stockland Hill via Alderney, hence being fed Westward/TSW. Channel TV actioned the IBA to have this altered, Channel later got its network feed from TVS/Meridian via Rowridge and an off-the-air pick-up on a power station chimney on the Cherbourg peninsula. Since the advent of D-SAT this changed with ITV being fibre fed to Channel, with potentially any region being available.
There were several reasons for the change from TSW to TVS, one cited as being the timing of Crossroads. More seriously TSW had entered into a supply agreement where Channel took programmes but also re-broadcast most of TSW's adverts as well as its own. Another advantage was that the CI are rather more embedded with the Solent area than the South West. Jersey and Guernsey for instance are in the Diocese of Winchester, the links to ports such as Poole and Pompey brings them into a much closer affinity with Meridian than Westcountry.
The BBC could include the CI sub-opt in any region, presumably South-West was chosen because the Channel Islands would be lost in the South or London regions.

It depends what it does, If there's still a need for what it does and it makes money then they'd keep it going or spin it off as a separate going concern.
There can't be that many other video/TV production companies on the Islands
