Assuming it gets approved by the Jersey Competition Regulatory Authority it will mean an end to what was essentially a fine dodge/reduction by ITV Plc in them using Channel TV's legal compliance services for their major shows.

No it won't, the fines are according to size of region and that's not changing even if the owners are

They'd better not be making Oscar Puffin redundant... there'll be a public outcry!

It makes sense for ITV to buy them assuming they can still get away with the Ofcom fine dodges etc, but I can't help but feel it's the end for Channel Television, I'm quite surprised they've been independent for so long.

Wow, really didn't see that coming. Presumably more to do with the compliance side of it as there surely can't be much to be made from advertising there. I wonder if it's only a matter of time before the news programme merges with Meridian?

"SMG owns the two Scottish licences, Scottish Television and Grampian" - except of course they changed their name to STVplc some years ago.

Does news take a long time to get to Jersey, then?

This change of ownership comes as Channel Television is about to enter its 50th anniversary year and marks an important and exciting step in the company’s future. Channel Television is proud of its strong local heritage and under ITV’s ownership, will continue to serve the communities in the islands with high quality news, information and factual programming.

Good luck with that...

If the news programme merged with that of Meridian, would this possibly mean a super region, like Tyne Tees and Border? The BBC already has such a region, BBC South, though they do produce an opt out on their regional news show, South Today, for the Channel Islands. I though can't help but think that there will be economies before long, and it'll be Channel that will be affected, behind the scenes mainly.
