According to the latest Ofcom Television Broadcast Licensing Update, it seems Channel M is now officially dead.
Scroll down to "Television services that have ceased to be licensed (handed back or revoked) in this period".

Question is, have Channel M handed their licence back to Ofcom, or could it have been revoked for some reason?

Hmm, I've only seen Channel M once since they took it off VM, and that was about a fortnight ago at my girlfriends house (you can see Winter Hill from there) and Channel M was still on air, as was Channel M's dating service on 201, but my understanding is now that on one of the extra channels on the MUX they've added Movies4Men.

Yes it's the dating service that has been/will be replaced by Movies4Men. I can't imagine Channel M itself closing down so quietly considering Media Guardian have always made an effort to report any changes to the channel. It is a bit strange though that the licence specifically says Channel M TV for Manchester rather than Manchester Dating or whatever it was called. Surely Channel M isn't listed on the EPG as that?

Looking at their list of licensees (which is very difficult to find on their site now) they have more than one license
'Channel M for Manchester' - http://www.ofcom.org.uk/static/tvlicensing/cs/1357.htm
'Channel M' - http://www.ofcom.org.uk/static/tvlicensing/dtt/1967.htm

Glad it's gone. Garbage like Channel M has absolutely no purpose. You simply can't do TV on the cheap and expect people to watch it. You can churn out radio on a shoestring budget, but television is just too expensive. Giving 'Manchester student television' a broadcasting license was always a ridiculous idea. Shocking really that its demise was as long and drawn out as it has been.

Channel M is very much alive. The licence in question was the licence for satellite transmission. The DTT licence remains.

A few more channels have now appeared on the Channel M local mux in Manchester:

202 Movies4Men+1
203 Movies4Men2
204 Movies4Men2+1
205 Men&Movies

Unfortunatelty they seem to have fiddled with somehting else at the same time to fit in the channels, so although I can pick up that there is channels there, I can no longer watch any of the channels on the Mux (from central Manchester).
