Just retuned my freeview recorder (with only 60% signal strengh) and I have all 3 channels, no problems what so ever, but living between Bury & Bolton I suppose that's why I have it.

So you can I get it as you're closer to the Winter Hill transmitter, while tesandco can receive it in South Manchester.
I'm more or less slap bang in the middle of you both geographically, literally a stone's throw from the boundary
between Whitefield and Bury, and I can't get the channel at all on either of my Freeview boxes!

Looking through DS Forums (again) and someone in Lymm (about 3 miles from where I live) can get all 3 channels loud and clear, but the poster did state that they could see Winter Hill from their house, and it is possible to see Winter Hill from many locations in Warrington.

I can see Winter Hill from the back of my house, we have never had isues with signals before (apart from the one for my room that has only 58-61% signal strengh) the switchover we could get all five channels (BBC1 ect) with out an arial some TV's

Was Channel M broadcast from the water tower in Ainsworth (Bolton/Bury) before the switchover or was if from Winter Hill?

For those of you sharp eyed, you'll notice that having died an extremely slow death, Channel M has finally closed down. On the Sky EPG, its channel, 203, is now taken up by Showcase 2. So Channel M has gone the way of Solent TV and MKTV, only, Channel M, it has to be said, faired longer and better, for a while.

It's still broadcasting on Freeview. They've sold their Sky EPG space.

It's just black on Virgin Media, presumably they were taking their feed off Sky.

I think the writing's been on the wall for some time now, especially with the axing of Local content and GMG selling off MEN Media.

Looks like things may be moving on the Channel M front, with rumours of new programming starting next year...

Channel M to relaunch next year

It doesn't look as though there are any plans to go back on Sky or Virgin, which is a shame.

Their Freeview reach doesn't seem to be very extensive. I know my sister can't pick it up in Alderley Edge.

Why does anybody even need Channel M? It's such a vanity project, with content on a par with what some forum members churn out in the 'mocks' section.

In what way is it a "vanity project" exactly? Which mocks are you comparing it to - the good ones or the crap ones?
At it's peak, Channel M was perhaps the most professional looking of all the restricted licence local TV channels.

In the sense that there's no purpose for it beyond the quaint idea that Manchester needs its own TV channel. Saying it's the most professional looking is like saying Gavin Scott is the hottest forum member. He probably is, but look what he's up against.

According to the latest Ofcom Television Broadcast Licensing Update, it seems Channel M is now officially dead.
Scroll down to "Television services that have ceased to be licensed (handed back or revoked) in this period".

Question is, have Channel M handed their licence back to Ofcom, or could it have been revoked for some reason?
